I learned that :
my friend Flow level 2 charger can only do 6.4KWh, would take 11.5 hours to top off.

When you stop at a “Electric Circuit” 50 KWh level 2, most of its charging rate is only 26KWh… why am I paying a rate of 50 ? (13.80$/h)

waiting more than 2 hours for a charge top off when battery is over 50% is ridiculous. I guess I will focus on 120KWh+ chargers even if my standard range battery tops out at 110 KWh.

Bonus question for my peers : if I got my Mach-e 1 week ago, how long will it take until ford ships me the NACS adapter?

thanks ! Glad to be onboard and exchange
Salut Phil!

When I'm in Quebec I avoid the 50kW Circuit Electrique chargers completely unless I have no choice - these days 50 is quite slow for a DC fast charger. On the plus side, those Circuit Electrique AddEnergie (brand name of the DC charger) and FLO DCFC may be slow and a bit ugly but they are rock solid. When I look around Gatineau / Ottawa there does not seem to be too many chargers above 50kW though.

As others have said, try to charge with a lower state of charge + warm battery + 100kW+ charger and stop at 80%.. If you use the Ford built-in Navigation app in the car it will pre-condition (warm) the battery about 30 km before you arrive the ensure that best charging speeds. And yes, anything over 150kW will not make much difference - I will choose a 150kW vs. a 350 kW if I have a choice because I'm not going to benefit, and someone else (like a KIA or Hyundai driver) will.

Also, I assume you have the Circuit Electrique app - it's really good. They just added a route planner that I use all the time. And it's free.

As for your friend's FLO home charger, it must be old - the newest home versions are rated up to 50A (would charge at 9.4 kW max) and even up to 80A - check out Flo.com. But there are lots of options on the market - the State of Charge Youtube channel rates just about all the L2 EVSE equipment available. And as a side note, officially the L2 is called an "EVSE" (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) - the actual "charger" is in the car.

And don't be afraid to ask anything here :) -enjoy!

Some chargers are unable to reach their full listed speed (for whatever reason). The best way to check the real output of DC chargers is to use an app called Plugshare. You can see reviews by actual users and they will usually state what output they are getting at a DC charger.

It is also possible that the current on the FLO is limited to protect the circuit it is on.

My Standard range LFP battery won’t go above 112KW max speed but on the plus side can be charged to 100% daily. (Unlike the extended range or GT model)
In the case of my charging to a 50Kw charger, doing 26 from start to end is a bit ridiculous, It’s half of the total capacity

I occasionally charge at 50kW chargers... they can go to 50kW.

Yup I’m learning that my battery’s charging curve is critical knowledge, will explain the speed of charge I’m seeing on the Ford Pass App.
Above 45% it won’t pass 76KWh.

Sorry guys,
I thought I was told KW is for battery capacity and KWh is for energy transfer rate ? Hense the per hour at the end.
I guess it’s the opposite.

yes in this case, it’s the speed of the charger (76 KW).
