After following the install of this station for nearly two years, it is now operational. It is located at Mel's Drive Thru Chicken and BBQ, 6385 US HWY 550, Cuba, New Mexico.

This is a much needed fast charging location for travel between Albuquerque and Farmington, NM. Highway 550 in New Mexico is still very much a charging desert. Let’s hope the uptime on this station is good, there currently is no other fast charging alternative in this area.

The station is on the Francis Energy network. There are two 150KW units with CCS1 plugs and CHAdeMO plugs. It was funded mostly through a State of New Mexico grant. It was scheduled to be operational more than a year ago. So far the few PlugShare check ins have been favorable.

And they're in-network as well! Love to see charging deserts getting filled in, even better that we've got access right from FordPass.

I was traveling in NM in September and did notice some fast charging deserts. Strangely enough, Los Alamos is one. Just a few level 2 small level 2 stations there.

There is a level 3 charger at one of the city or state building. It is on the ChargePoint network. I have charged there recently. I think it was limited to 65kw.

Francis Energy is based here locally out of Tulsa Oklahoma. They are well known for not maintaining their chargers once they are installed around here. Hopefully they keep them up a little better in other states.

So far it has been a mixed bag in New Mexico. Francis Energy has received several grants from the State of New Mexico and they have chargers located in some key areas where there are no other options. One example is Carrizozo, New Mexico. This is a must charge stop for the city Alamagordo and White Sands National Park when traveling from Albuquerque. The Carrizozo charging station was closed for months. Several of us NM EVers' contacted Francis Energy who claimed it was a shortage of spare parts. The site has been up and running for several months now and the PlugShare scores are reasonable.
