I live downtown in my city and park inside a garage with chargers. I have "Phone as a key" but I only use it to move my car out of a charging spot to a regular parking spot, inside the garage. Yesterday, "Phone as a Key" would not work! I unlocked my car door with the app, but my car would not detect a key. Eventually, it asked me for my "passcode." I put the "passcode" in and was able to start/move my car.

I see post all the time about "Phone as a key not working" and I hope this is helpful because I didn't know that was an alternative. I was too lazy to run up stairs to get my fob is how learned this. That's all?

You didn't know what was an alternative - the passcode you setup? That's exactly the purpose of it.

Android, Galaxy Z Fold 5 here. Phone as a key was pretty much flawless up until today. Sometimes I could unlock the door, but I needed my backup code to drive, just like you. I tried removing my phone key and adding it again, but it's still not working.

I think the December security patch that I installed yesterday is correlated... I'll likely have to use the fob until the January security update comes and see if it's fixed by that.

I'm curious if others with Samsung/Android phones are seeing the same thing...

The issue is with the Android update.

The only time I have had an issue is if I close the app so it’s not running in the background. Doesn’t sound like that was your issue.

I use PAAK all the time. What I did do is buy a faraday key fob holder to keep 1 key fob in the trunk. It is not seen by the car at all if it is in the case. It works great if for some reason the car does not see the phone or if you have to park it in a garage with valet or need last minute service you already have the key in the car. They are only $10 on Amazon. Highly reccomend.

You won't be using paak for a while if you have a samsung.

I have tried a couple of times to change the code to something I would actually remember, but I was not successful.

Ford just emailed the following:

If you currently use a device that runs on the Android 14 operating system and drive a Ford vehicle, the Phone as a Key functionality in your FordPass app may currently be impaired.

Due to a recent Android 14 software update, some users are unable to access and start their Ford vehicles using the Phone as a Key feature in their FordPass app.

We are working on a solution with third parties, and we will update you once the issue is resolved. In the interim, to start your vehicle, please use your key fob or Backup Passcode.

We apologize for this inconvenience — and we appreciate your patience. Please do not delete or reset your Phone as a Key, as either action will lock you out.

I’ve NEVER been able to set up my Paak. So using a passcode isn’t possible. It’s a Catch-22; need to set up Paak first in order to create a passcode. I’m still waiting on Ford to contact me about getting this sent up since the FordPass rep I spent over an hour on the phone with was clearly in over her head and couldn’t figure it out.
Word of advice to any non-tech business, if youā€˜re going to incorporate tech into your products make sure you have a COMPETENT tech department to help with customer service.

Last night (12/17), I went to check the state of charge on Ford Pass, and it showed the car was still in town and hadn’t charged. Going out to the car, it had reached target charge. Ford Pass is still not connecting today.
