Rust on rear brakes rotors (a few questions for people who know more than me)

My Mach is newer (7 months old with 8K miles). Started to hear a bad sound at end point of breaking, assumed pads, but it wasnt. It is likely caused by rust on rear rotors. Tried to get it off with some hard braking and that has helped but not eliminated the rust. Here are my dumb questions as a new EV owner:

1. Will my rear brakes engage more in any specific mode (whisper vs engage)? Guessing not, but figured I'd ask.
2. Does car get regen on brakes in whisper mode? I've only driven in engage mode, so now noticing that the brake coach doesnt notify me in whisper
3. Any other thoughts on clearing/preventing the rust besides a hard occasional brake?

Thanks!

When you back up and brake, only the real brakes will operate. That will clear up the rust quickly. It's normal, especially with salt around.

If you're able to fully turn off advancetrac, this disables regen too.

I actually had my local shop tell me something weird last month when I got my inspection. They said that NY can be really strict (depending on the shop you go to, I'm sure) when doing inspections on brakes. They're apparently supposed to fail any vehicles with rusty rotors (as it could be a sign the brakes aren't functional). And this could obviously be more of an issue with EVs and regen.

Don't know how legitimate that actually is... and this shop wouldn't fail me for it, but something to think about, I guess,

After I wash my car in the driveway, the rotors are a little rusty looking. Drive downhill fast, put it in neutral, hit the brakes = shiny rotors.

Everyone I know has had multiple failed inspections in VT because of rusty rotors. The shops get to replace brakes that are perfectly fine, and the state gives them the reason to do it.

I never knew that. That will be an issue with EVs. In New Jersey EVs don't have inspections. We just have really big potholes.
