Hi All.

My charging brick is faulting during the extreme cold. i.e., the indicator turns orange to indicate a fault. I've brought the charger into the house a few times to let it warm up for an hour or two, and that seems to do the trick, but it doesn't seem like I should have to do that. I did remove the 220 extension, and sure enough, there seemed to be some moisture in there. The seal seemed as snug as it could be, so I don't know why there was moisture in the charger.

Is anyone else having an issue with their charger during extreme cold?

Many people on this forum have said the Ford mobile charger is not robust enough for daily use outside, especially in this cold weather.

I use the Ford mobile charger inside my garage that hasn’t got below 45° this winter.

My friends use two Amproad iFlow P9 chargers at their house in the rural Northeast. The chargers have custom NEMA 40-15 hookups, but are otherwise stock. They are installed outdoors and are used in all seasons and weather. It's been almost three years now, and they have had no problems in cold weather, including during the current cold spell.

This product marketing image is hilarious. Has anyone ever seen 220 chargers installed in the middle of an open field?!

I use my Ford Mobile Charger exclusively (aside from the occasional DC charger). The lowest temperature here (outside Toronto) to date has been -16 Celsius or 2 degrees Fahrenheit. I have had no problems so far, but the charging unit has always been covered (in the garage or by a porch roof).

I have not. But I use my Mobile charger in the garage. It has been as low as 2 degrees F. this winter and has been below freezing for over a week. The garage is uninsulated and unheated . It gets down to 15 degrees or so on 2 degree day The charger has preformed flawlessly. I am using the 120 VAC sloooowwwwww charge. The charge rate seems consistent no matter the temp. Limited experience as I have only had the car for 2 weeks.

Congrats on the new wheels & welcome. I survived for seven months using the mobile charger at 120vac with no real problems. You are probably seeing rate of 1.2 KWh. Since I upgraded the same charger to 240vac I'm getting 7.3 KWh. It's much nicer knowing that I will be at 80-90% the next morning (depending on what limit I set) .

The Ford Mobile Charger is not meant for permeant outdoor use. Water will get in the connection and corrode it. It also doesn't like extreme cold.

You should really buy something meant to be installed outdoors permanently.

Thanks. Really loving this ride. I am
Retired so a typical day I might drive 20 or 25 miles. So it is livable even with the cold. Ford has a Lev 2 charger promote the moment but they seem to in short supply .
