Good Morning,

Just took ownership of a 2021 Mach e select and looking at purchasing the emporia charger, I see that they have a Nacs version that would future proof me with any new cars we get .

My question I have is there any issues with getting the Nacs version and using the nacs adapter every night or should i go with the J1772 plug?

Adapters exist each way, so whether you buy a NACS home charger now and use an adapter today, or a J1772 home charger today and use an adapter in the future, it's kind of a wash depending on how long you want to keep each vehicle and how long you expect the charger to last.

That said, an adapter like the Lectron J1772 adapter could just live on the NACS cable forever, you wouldn't have any issues. But it's a toss-up to me, I went J1772 this year for a second home charger because it's more convenient today - when this charger dies I'll reassess.

I had the Emporia charger, with the NACS connector, installed last April, when it first became available. I’ve been using it with the Teslatap adapter since then, with no problems. It works perfectly. I bought it to future proof myself for future cars I get.

Two lines of thinking I guess...I would buy based on today (what's certain) and then adapt later (uncertain) if necessary. No wrong answer tho....

While not an emporia EVSE, I picked up the grizzle mini nacs version Black Friday because it was on sale and the J1772 wasn’t. I have a universal wall connector for the home. I bought the A2z Nacs to CCs and nacs to J1772 set during black Friday also. Most manufacturers have stated and some already started converting to nacs. So in 5-6years when I am looking to upgrade my EVSE’s are future proof.

Lots of folks use a NACS Level 2 charger and pair it with an adapter to use it on their vehicle with J-1772 plug.

I would recommend the A2Z Stellar NACS to J-1772 adapter which is available for $88, compact build, has a built in lock, good customer service / warranty and overbuilt for futureproofing.

Discount promo code “FORD” is still working and free shipping is also available.

I'm in the same situation. Have a coworker who got a new extra Emporia Nacs willing to sell with adapter for under $300. Kinda feels like a no brainer compared to a chargepoint or other charger for near $550.

The Emporia is a great charger and the price is right. The ChargePoint makes it easy to swap the cable later as they sell the NACS or J1772 cables separately. But by the time you pay over $500 for the charger and $130 for the additional cable, you can buy a new Emporia later with the proper connector. Technically, a cable swap on the Emporia would be just as easy, they just don't sell the cable separately.

Tesla Universal Charger just includes a NACS to J1772 adapter and the charger unit has a handy place to dock the adapter. It's a good charger too, but once again is $500.

Adapters are fine, but for a charger that gets used constantly, I would prefer to eliminate the adapter as that just eliminates a potential failure point. Although the odds of failure are extremely low.
