Title:

I signed up for EA membership to get the discounts for a recent road trip. Loaded some money in the app.
However, no matter how I try to initiate the charge I get the standard rate instead of the discount.

  1. I have tried to initiate through the app: It instructs me to plug in...then I get the Blue Oval rate
  2. I have tried to Plug-in: use the app and selected charger to continue (beating the on screen button) and it errors out.
EA support is overseas... and the poor customer service person can't leave the support script to assist me other than saying try it again, or add more funds (I used to manage overseas call center employees, they leave the script they get fired). So it is a circle jerk.

How can I realize and use my membership discount?

Thanks

1) Open EA app.
2) Activate charger.
3) When charger is activated, plug in.

Ignore any other directions.

Or,

1) Disable Plug and Charge.
2) Plug in.
3) Activate charger with EA app if Plug and Charge really turned off...

1.) Swipe to activate in EA app.
2.) Wait for EA screen to change from "Plug In First" to "Please Plug In"
3.) Plug in
4.) Get discount.

Works 100% of the time for me. Don't plug in until you see the screen on the charger reflect that it has been activated by the app. Ignore that it says to plug in first just wait until it's activated by app, then plug in. Usually more reliable to activate and then plug in anyway.

You can confirm. If the charger screen says ‘welcome guest’ you’re using P&C. If it welcomes you personally, it’s using EA directly.

I really hope the charging standards allow us to use Plug & Charge with membership discounts soon. This is quite annoying that the two don't mix.

Thanks everyone! That will show me to follow the on screen prompts in the app. Now I know.

Tesla has there own membership too for non Tesla EV’s. I find that with plug & charge depending on the location it can be almost twice as much per KWh. It’s $12.99 plus tax for the membership and that gets you the same pricing as Tesla EV’s. At that point you have to deactivate plug & charge and use the Tesla app.

If you want to make sure you get the discount, disable Plug & Charge in the car unless you need it.
