Hello
I'm in the middle of a short trip and enjoying these 250kw and 350kw chargers.

I'm at an EA charger now, and the FordPass app does not let me extend to 85%; I'm here, why not?

Is it because superfast charging stations are programmed to get us to 80% and out of there? The same thing happened at a Tesla charger last night.

I know that the charging rate beyond 80% really slows down, and perhaps that's why.
Thanks

Edit - nvm, I found the answer in the picture (Google search...)

I'm sorry, but your post is a bit confusing, and I'm not sure what you are asking....

Are you saying that you've plugged your vehicle into multiple different fast chargers (both an EA and Tesla) and it just completely stops charging at 80%??

I'm not sure what you mean by "extending to 85%..."

If you plug into a DC Fast Charger, and it's working properly, the vehicle would charge all the way up to 100% if you left it plugged in long enough....

There is no extending or any other settings you would be setting in the app....

The FordPass app states that it's charging to 80%, so I assume that it will stop there. Maybe I'll stick around a few more minutes to see if it continues on beyond 80.
Based on what my screenshot says, the charger is programmed to shut off at 80.

Gotcha, I see that now.....I wasn't aware of, and have never heard of this at EA chargers being limited.....

I only see a reference to 85% in your screenshot, not 80%???

In any case, to my knowledge, I'm not aware of any similar thing on Tesla's chargers, I've charged my MME at Tesla Superchargers on mulitple occassions, without issue...

Also, sounds like you're on an EA station now?

Is there any indication on the charger itself that it plans on stopping at 85%?? (and if so, out of curiosity, where is this charger located?) Or was that just general information you found when searching...

WOW, one more reason to avoid EA stations then, I guess, lol.....
I would prefer to use chargers that limit people to 80-85% because the wait time will be shorter. Charging past 85% on DC is usually a waste of time for everyone involved because of the charge curve slowing the rate down to a crawl. There are too many people that don’t understand this and try to charge to 100% at a DC charger instead of planning their trip more efficiently with 80% stops. It can really slow things down when there is a line, so having a limit keeps things moving and fair.

I agree and understand, but simply wanted to get another 5%.
I got limited to 80,and that's fair enough.

That's a fair argument, and certainly understandable, especially given the ignorance of many never EV drivers, it seems....

And I should note, I would never charge more than the 80-85%, unless it was absolutely necessary, and not that busy....

But, to each their own... I personally genrally prefer to charge at chargers that don't tell me what to do and dictate my charging activities, especially at $.56/kwh, and when certain charging brands have a shoddy reliablity history, at best, lol.... ?‍♂

But if driver's aren't going to police themselves, and as long as it's advertised by the charger network in advance, I certainly don't see any problem with it...

EA’s public messaging states that the charge will be limited to 85%, but I have heard other cases of it being limited to 80% in reality. I agree it would be good to get some clarification on this (is it 80% or 85%?), not great if you were planning a leg for 85%, but only get 80%.
