I have been advised not to charge past 80% in order to maintain the best battery long term health. And only charge to 100% when planning a long distance trip.

My question is: how to get charging to automatically stop when the battery reaches 80%?

Anyone know how to do this?

I am using a ChargePoint Home Flex charger. 240 volt, 24 amp (sharing a 30 amp dryer circuit).

it would be nice to keep the charger connected all night so it is plugged in and available to precondition the car in the morning before departure. But to stop charging at 80%.

Sharing a dryer circuit is a bad idea.

Why? What is your rational?

I have 100 amp at my house panel. Having a separate 30-60 amp circuit for once a week charging doesn’t make sense.
Are you suggesting I upgrade my house to 200 amp? I don’t think so.
The Dryer Buddy is an excellent product that solves my EV charging needs.

The obvious would be wiring and or the plug not being up to snuff for continuous draw. If you checked the wiring to make sure its of the right size/type then you should be fine. Just make sure no one tries to do laundry when your car is charging. :)

Thanks for your advice.
You should know the Dryer Buddy acts like a giant automatic switch. It gives priority to the dryer. So when the dryer is turned on the dryer Buddy directs power to the dryer. And when the dryer is not in use the dryer Buddy directs the power to the car charger.
So only one load EVER receives power from the dryer circuit. It never pulls more than 24 amps from the 30 amp breaker.
And the cable being used to run power from my laundry room to the car charger in the garage is 8 gauge and inside a conduit.
Hope that helps explain things.
And my charger is the ChargePoint Home Flex. It is set to draw a max of 24 amps.

As long as your breaker is sized correctly to the wires you have nothing to worry about IMO. If your setup works for you, have another beer!

I didn't know you were running a Dryer Buddy. Since your charger is only pulling 24 amps, you should be fine then. I was thinking you were using the level 2 charging cord that comes with the car which pulls over 30 amps. Sorry for the confusion.
