I bought my MME last July and am loving it. There are issues brought up in these forums that I have as well. Some relatively minor, others a bit more significant. A lot of them are more informational in nature (I want to be able to see <thing> on my display).

The fact that I have received 2 separate emails from ford about “Karaoke improvements” seems ridiculous. This seems like an odd thing to be directing resources to.

I finally set it up after that first email, its awesome in my driveway, but its useless when driving. This weekend on a road trip, flipped on my phone mobile hot spot, que'd up Welcome to the Jungle, my kids in the back seat all excited, but no lyrics display while driving. Is the expectation I am just sitting in my car while charging doing this? How ridiculous would that be.

I agree it is insulting to think they are wasting time and resources on this, and I'd be angry with this also, but I finally received the update so the car will pre-condition with Android Auto and Google maps, so no complaints here.

With my '22 premium now out of warranty, I expect very few further functionality updates. And, in general, the car is rock solid compared to when I first bought it.

Did you do anything special to get it to finally update? My 21 still hasn't updated from June 2024.

Probably a pet project for a developer or two in their software division. I doubt a lot of resources or time was put into it. Software items like this are quite easy from a car making standpoint, both in time to produce and distribute. The featuress they charge for (subscription) are counted on as revenue streams because of the low cost to Ford to produce and distribute them. Cash cow. Software toys like this fall out of the same bucket.

Fixing bugs and adding features that have to comply with regulatory requirements are a different story. Bugs are inherently difficult because if it was easy, the bug wouldn't exist and/or would have been caught earlier. So while both appear to us as merely 'software', their actual complexity and timelines for completion are quite different.

First question from grandkids - Does your new car have karaoke?
Yes.

Second question - Does it have The Duck Song?
Yes.

Excitement and singing ensued. And people say Ford should spend resources elsewhere...

(True story. But seriously, I'd rather the answers were "no". Especially after about the fourth time they asked.)

It’s a third party Android app who’s developers ported it over and Ford makes money off them.

But every couple months we can pretend Ford programmed this themselves.

I think they made it so you can only see the lyrics while driving through the passengers' phones, because a driver reading Axl Rose's lyrics while underway is effectively a drunk driver...

This is a 3rd party app that I'm sure Ford was either fully funded to develop or was given the app to install. It also has pay options, so Ford is incentivized to promote this.

I'm sure their regular development team is still working on improvements, this is just a collaboration they might be testing.

Actual provider website is here: https://karaoke.stingray.com/en/
