My family and I travelled from Rochester NY to Charleston SC the week of July 4th using Tesla Superchargers with my A2Z adapter with no issues. But on the way back through Reston VA the Tesla adapter refused to release from my adapter. I messed with it for about 20 minutes but we had a 7 hour drive ahead of us and couldn’t wait forever. Unfortunately both Tesla and A2Z support lines were closed because it was a Sunday so I had to just leave the adapter. I’m so pissed. I took a video to send to A2Z and am hoping they’ll do something to make it right. Anyways, just posting so others can be aware of the issue.

That sucks, hopefully they replace it. Was it the first generation adapter with the bottom side lock, or the new one with the dual release mechanism?

Chad, I live in Centreville which isn’t far from Reston. Since I’m retired I also have a bit of time to kill. If you like, I can take a spin up to Reston and see if someone got the adapter off and left it laying around. If so, I would send it to you.

There are two SC sites in Reston. One is very close to the Fairfax County Parkway off Sunset Hills. The other is a little farther east close to a Silver Line Metro stop. Do you recall which site you used? You can DM me or reply here as you wish.

Sorry about the glitch in Reston but good to hear the rest of the trip was good. If you were traveling on I 95 I don’t envy you. I hate that almost as much as 81. 95 is a nightmare from DC through NC in my opinion.

A2Z's support is 7 days a week, 10AM to 5PM.

The first generation adapter, i.e. the Typhoon, was recalled, and all customers were notified.

The same thing happened to me at Supercharger when I used the button next to the charge port to stop the charging instead of using the app. I had to reinsert into my charge port and restart the session via the Tesla app. Then when I ended that session from the app it released the adapter. This is with the second generation adapter.

I had that happen to me the 1st time I tried using A2Z adapter (gen2). No matter what I did, it would not disconnect. Then after about 10 min, It disconnected without barely any effort at all.

I waited and messed around with it for like 20 minutes and nothing worked. I tried attaching to back to the car, turning the car on and off, and various permutations of pressing the buttons on the cord and the adapter and the car, all to no avail!

I wish I had thought of downloading the Tesla app! I’ve never used it so I didn’t think of it.

I tried getting through to a person there and at Tesla and couldn’t get a hold of anybody. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

and yeah, this was my replacement after the recall.

That would be the location Tesla calls Sunset Hills on their app. This is a screen shot. Look like the place to you? Do you recall about where you parked? Toward the R or L end as you look at the chargers from the parking lot?

Yep that’s the place! Attached is a pic of the label on the charger I used. The serial number is TG3240240084RM.

Thanks again for your help!

Chad, I’ll take some images when I get home. It doesn’t feel water logged…at least I can’t hear or feel water sloshing.

DM your address where you want it sent. I guess the choices are USPS, FedEx, or UPS. Your choice.
