Can't speak to that really, and I wanted AWD specifically because of the weight distribution and traction on Hills as my driveway is steep and gravely.

I'd been watching EV auctions all across the country for a few months when I happened upon this MME. I'd bid on a few others things but they always went too high, and I had bid on a Honda Prologue and had the highest bid but it didn't reach will call price, plus it was way out of my state and would have cost 1100 to ship, so I'm glad I didn't get it.

This MME was within two hours or so of me so I could get it myself with no real problems which saved me a ton of money up front... Luckily it fit on my trailer because I didn't even think to measure for it like a doofus!

I wasn't really interested in bidding on a front end collision car because of all the expensive parts in the front, but I figured that since it was listed as "run and drive" and that the pictures seemed to show how limited the damage was (no bags deployed, no broken glass, etc) that there must not be much else wrong with it so I threw out a lowball bid of 14000 and was shocked to win it for what I did.

Pretty sure that this car was hit while parked because of the limited amount of damage, but I may be wrong.

I was only bidding against someone in Georgia the country, so not a lot of action on the block, in my favor.

Now I'm on the prowl for a VW ID.buzz for the wife!
Good luck finding the VW ID.Buzz. I read an article recently which stated that only about 5,000 units have been sold thusfar in the U.S. If you want to again rebuild a salvaged vehicle, it may be hard to find one. But good luck whith whatever you wind up doing.

Yeah, I've only seen one wrecked Buzz in three months and it was like 2000 miles away from me so no bueno.

I'm going to keep it in my search list, but it seems more likely that I'm fine a deal on a Rivian R1S or Kia EV9 first.

Curious how you registered ownership, VIN and other information with Ford and connected to receive OTA updates. Did you use your Ford contact to help with this?

Well, is the manufacturer even notified when a vehicle is totaled? I do know that Ford and other brands are required by law to carry out recall services to all affected vehicles on the road, so it should still get updates for recalls at the very least. I really don't care if it ever gets an update as it runs and drives as it should. The rest is just icing.

I'm kinda known for doing things the hard way, (if you doubt that, take a quick Look at my website😉), but dang that seems like a lot of work to get a used car!

That looks like it was totally drivable still, why did they have to use the loader on it? How badly was the battery case scraped up?

What kind of shape was the battery in? Seems like you would just need a 12V jump start and it should be back to running.

That works until a critical update is required.

If it's critical for safe operation of the vehicle it will most likely fall under recalls regulations and is legally required to be supported.

Again, the vehicle works perfectly as if, even if it never gets another update.

Surprisingly enough this car has not had the hvjb recall completed yet, and I've already scheduled the work with my local Ford dealership via VIN number, so this car is still being supported by the Ford network, same as any other.

That's standard operating procedure on these lots. No one gets to load the cars themselves. They're is virtually no undercarriage markings to speak of, they are insanely good at loading cars with those things.

It's also illegal to operate salvage vehicles on road until it is fully repaired and inspected by an agent of the state. Then the title is changed to "rebuilt" and then it roadworthy again.

HV Battery is fully functional. 12V is perfectly fine.

So in this case I assume the insurance company got the $12,300 you paid for it? I wonder what the original owner's payout was.

Oh, and congrats on saving a Mach-E from the crusher. We live it an increasingly disposable society these days, where I think most people don't even think "broken" things can be fixed.

Interestingly in French we distinguish between relative states of "broken-ness" or how it was broken. We have "casser" (kah-say) which is used to describe something not working, but which one assumes can be fixed. Like a broken leg. Briser (Bree-say) is used to describe something broken apart, usually violently - like a glass that shattered on the floor.

It's also more nuanced than that, but at least we have two words :)

Enjoy!

Hey thanks. I totally agree about the the disposable mentality that people have about things these days. I try to follow the Reduce Reuse Recycle mantra whenever I can. Rebuilding a car is far more environmentally friendly than crushing and recycling it, not to mention that it's a great way to save money!

With no judgement at all, I recommend inspecting the battery using the following Technical Service Bulletin linked below:

You owe it to yourself and those you transport to ensure long-term safety.
