I have a choice between a Premium Mach-e in Molten Magenta with a black interior and a panoramic roof or a Molten Magenta with a Gray interior and no sunroof. My most important question is for those of you who have seen a Magenta with gray interior, how did it look to you? I've almost never gotten a black interior because of how hot they get. But these seats are ventilated. So maybe that would solve the heat problem. The dealer had a lot of Molten Magentas with black interior and none with gray. The one he offered me he would have to get from a other dealerr, whcih is why I didn't get to see it. I'm worried hat it's a possible issue that he had a lot in black and none in gray. Is it because no one actually likes the gray interior? So what do you all think about a molten Magenta with gray interior? Is it a beauty, or a dog?

I might as well add a second question. If I get the black interior it has the panoramic roof. Even though it was not nearly as hot out as it gets here there was still heat radiating from the glass. I know it blocks UV, but heat is still poring through it. I held my hand about steering wheel height and then raised it to close to the glass and the temp must have gone up at least ten degrees. I know AC would cool of the car, but what if I drive a long distance in 90+ degree heat. Is the AC going to be struggling all the way to keep the temp down, and how will that affect range? Most of you must have this roof. What do you all think? Is heat a problem? One final thought is - should I be worried about it being chipped by a flying stone, or cracking?

Thanks for your input.

Dozens and dozens of threads about the roof. It does NOT increase the heat in the cabin. Touch it, put your hand next to it, yes, it's hot ("I told you not to touch that"). People in Arizona, Texas, Florida, Nevada - all say no shade is needed.

IMO, you should not buy any modern vehicle without clearly understanding your glass coverage. Some years ago, I switched to full glass coverage with zero deductible on my vehicles. I have gone through 3 windshields in let's say 15 years. That's the cost of ONE windshield or so, and I've gotten 2 more. Yes, glass roofs can break. And if the windshield has to be replaced, you have to get the tech recalibrated.

I think if you dig through the forum here for posts about the panoramic roof, you'll find that it doesn't really matter to most people. I have the panoramic roof, since it was standard on my model, but I thought I would care about it more. It's great for people riding in the back, but that's a rare occurrence in my car. It isn't really noticeable at all to me when I'm driving. I also don't feel like it makes my car any hotter than a solid roof, but I live in a place that only gets above 100F a couple of days a year... And there have been a number of threads about cracks in the glass roof. So I think if I was buying another MME, I would likely buy it without the panoramic roof.

As far as the grey interior goes, I think they look nice! I have a feeling that it would show any dirt or grime more than the black interior, but I clean my interior pretty regularly.

Good luck with your dilemma! It's not a bad problem to have ;)

Thanks for the comments about the roof. I've gone and found a few of the threads (I just joined the forum so didn't know there were so many). I kind of don't get it. If I heat up a cast iron pan and put my hand a few inches below it, the air there is hot with heat radiating from the hot pan. How can a glass roof get so hot that you can't touch it without the air a few inches beneath it getting hot? I did the simple test I mentioned - put my hand down low and slowly raised it. When I got a few inches from the glass the air was defintely hotter. I'm not sure if people are saying I might have been imagining that, or just that once I air out the car it will no longer be hot near the glass roof.

I think it's just that people are worried that the glass roof will create a greenhouse situation with runaway heat in the vehicle, but most of the posts about it, combined with my own experience, make me believe that it doesn't make it any hotter inside than a metal roof (which would likely be too hot to touch as well) would...

Might be worth seeing if other people have posted anything about the grey interior. I don't remember seeing any posts that complain about it...

The glass gets hot because it's reflecting the heat rather than letting it pass directly through. Yes, it radiates some heat due to being hot to the touch. The interior and the occupants will feel a little of this. What they don't feel is the heat that would have otherwise been transmitted through a non-IRR pane, as the vast majority of the heat energy is reflected back out of the car. 😁🐩

On a very cold day, the glass roof lends itself to letting heat out of the car. Solar heating is again reflected out of the car, so the cold air outside of the car chills the glass to the point of making the glass suck the heat out of the cabin. 🤔🐩

Neither of these reasons are why I chose to get a car with a metal roof. 😁🐩

Having driven with the panoramic sunroof for 3 years, I agree with everyone who says it's just not noticeable for the driver. A few times a year I sit in the back and it's pretty awesome back there, especially at night. But the other 99% of the time I just don't even notice it. It's more of a liability without the right insurance coverage.

My personal preference is a metal roof just because I see no benefit in a glass roof and so why take a chance with it breaking?

As for the interior color I prefer lighter colors because of heat, but the closer the color gets to white I worry about it showing dirt. I wish there were more choices.

But given the choice I certainly would pick the gray, with no sun roof. We actually did end up with black (not vented), and they do get hot. Even though vented might help with cooling down faster, that isn’t going to stop them from heating up in the first place.

Yeah, I hear ya about more choices. I've owned a lot of red cars. My favorite interieor is kind of a light saddle leather brown. Or tan, or even dark brown. The gray does seem to be near white in the pictures I've seen and I think white with that red would be a bit ... I don't know, maybe a bit harsh looking.

Just noticed you live in bay area. I do too. But it makes a big difference where. I live in Marin. We have few days in the 90's and a day or two over a hundred. I guess that's not the kind of Arizona heat where people say you should skip a glass roof. Just curious, why did you get a metal roof

I'm an old-time hot rodder and racer. I remember the days when you could order a car with radio, insulation, and heater delete. I bought a GT to have fun with. The glass weighs more than the metal and insulation and it's up high, making it less desirable to me. 😁🐩

I have Rapid Red with the Space Grey interior. I love it. I can't do black interiors, but that is a side effect of my former time in Phoenix. Here's a picture I posted at 11k miles, with sero care. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/keeping-light-space-grey-interior-clean.18265/post-444400

Compare the seats to the floor mats.

Mine are started to crack along the bolster at around 40k but the black ones seem to be doing that too. I've cleaned them once now. I'm noticing some very light staining, but that takes a very critical eye to see, and the stitching might be a little darkened. I almost exclusively wear shrink-to-fit jeans, which are probably worst case for staining.

Tint the front side windows at the very least unless it's against the law or if you have vision problems . Car looks great , a little added privacy and tint keeps car cooler . ALL pluses .

My '22 GT has a dark interior. I won't comment on heat from the pano roof (mine has the pano glass) because a) I live in SF so heat is very rarely an issue and b) it's been covered ad nauseam here. But I will note that when I drive my friend's Tesla M3 with white interior (in Hawaii and therefore quite hot, albeit not Phoenix hot), while the white makes a huge difference in seat temps, it reflects on the center screen like there's no tomorrow. It's often close to impossible to see what on the screen. Note sure how that experience might translate to an MME in Novato, but I thought I'd add this since no one else talked about that aspect of a lighter interior vehicle with a big screen. @OH2AZ2OH, what's your experience with glare from the Space Grey interior?

Wow, I had never thought of that possible issue. I hope the person you asked for input responds.
