My MME was stolen last night and we thankfully got it back due to the FordPass app's location tracking. Our other car was left unlocked with the MME's fob left inside. They took the fob, went for a fun little drive, and then ditched the car in someone's side yard. The MME is in fine and there wasn't anything inside for them to steal. We got it back without the fob and now I need to figure out a way for them to not use that fob again.

Is it possible to deprogram just the missing fob? If so, how?
Do I need to deprogram both fobs?
I think it's no big deal to program a new fob...anyone have a link? Thinking about getting the Lightening's fob with a frunk button.

Thanks all!

You cannot program a new key to the car without two administrator keys. Only a locksmith with a special computer program or a Ford Dealer can do this, regardless of whether you are using an MME key or an F150 Lightning key. I suspect that is also the case with removing an existing lost or stolen administrator key from the car. šŸ¤”šŸ©

How ironic, I was just reading the article about how the Mach-E was one of the least stolen vehicles… šŸ˜

You’ll have to buy a new fob and have the dealer clear them all out and reprogram the two you want. You need two fobs to program minimum.

All things considered, you’re very lucky you recovered the vehicle undamaged. You must have got a crackhead looking for a thrill rather than car thief because the real thieves turn off the tracking first thing.

I will also remind people that they should not leave key fobs in their vehicle (even with the battery removed) for this very reason. It is much smarter to set a backup passcode in case PAAK doesn’t work rather than risk leaving a fob in the car. Thieves WILL look through your storage compartments and common hiding places to find a key fob if they get in, and they know how to use the fob without a battery in it.

Happy to see that they only took it for a joyride.

makes me feel fortunate that I’m able to park in my garage.

Oh yeah, quite fortunate this is the end result. The detective said it's quite common in our area that cars get stolen for joyrides more than anything else, 3-4 times a week he said.

I also saw that article and thought the timing was extremely ironic. Leaving the key fob in the unlocked car next to the MME is barely stealing though, haha. The other driver in the house is to blame for that, not the car lol.

I thought I've seen people program a new fob with only fob connected?

It’s not possible. The software built into the car requires that two administrator keys be present in order to program a new key into the car. It’s kind of a moot point though. If you need to remove one key from the car a specialized locksmith or a Ford dealer is necessary anyhow. See Post #3 above from @Mach-Lee . 😁🐩

As the child of a Grand Master locksmith who had it drummed into his head on threat of severe physical violence, I agree with Lee on advising to NEVER leave a key in a ā€œhiding spot.ā€ Thieves know where these spots are better than we do. That’s what they do for a living, so they’re experts in that kind of stuff. Just don’t do it. šŸ¤”šŸ©

In our situation the fob wasn’t intentionally left in the other car, it was forgotten and then left unlocked šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø.

Went to the dealer and they quoted $80 to reprogram no matter the amount of keys so that’s super reasonable compared to what I’ve seen others report. Going to store the MME in the garage until my frunk button equipped fob gets here. Which they of course advised against getting. To their credit though, they said they just don’t want it to not work and me be out $80 for them trying.

You might want to purchase two F150 Lightning keys so that in case a key gets mislaid you have two admin keys that can be used to program another key into the car without having to go to the dealer. 😁🐩

If you do get it reprogrammed with 2 fobs at the dealer and purchase the lightning fob separate . This is what I used to program the 2 existing fobs with the new lightning fob:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Car stolen, got it back without fob. How do I deprogram the stolen fob? KeyFob-Programming-Guid

If they don't feel comfortable with programing the lightning fob you can do it yourself for free.
