I believe in the Motor Trend article they mentioned that on 1.5 the car will also move out of a passing lane if a faster vehicle is approaching from behind. Did you experience that? It seems it would require the use of some sort of rear facing camera or sensor beyond the very short range parking sensors.
Just bought a 2025 ME4 this past Sunday and can tell you first-hand the car changed lanes from the passing lane to get out of the way of another vehicle rapidly approaching from behind.

On non-mapped 2-lane highways I would like to see it bias toward the right. Someone said theirs does this, but mine doesn't.

Mach-Lee while my '22 was in for repairs the dealer loaned me a '24 with what I believe had 1.4 BC. It slowed down too early and too much going into a round-a-bout and accelerated before hitting the apex of the turn. Did 1.5 correct that?
I didn't think BC(hands free) worked on roads with intersections or traffic circles. It doesn't work on any roads like that around here. Limited access only.

Just got my car this week, and the first time it did the, "Slow traffic ahead, initiating lane change", I was like, oh man, here we go... but it worked really well.

It's pretty neat, but in no universe is this worth $500/year. I'm content with adaptive cruise control. If I had a hellishly long commute with sparse traffic, maybe it would be worth it?

The car drives very conservatively in BC, which is expected, but that's not going to fly for someone who has to commute in big city traffic. That type of driving has to be aggressive just out of necessity so you don't get run off the road. That said, maybe there's a slider somewhere in the BC settings that goes from "granny" to "BIG ALTIMA ENERGY"?

Space_pony, I was referring to adaptive cruise control going into round-a-bouts. I was referring BC 1.4 & 1.5 thinking there was an association between them.

Great review!

What do you think is stopping Ford from using BC on more than just Insterstates?

Because the tech is basically camera based, what does the “mapping” even do?
This write-up is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! It explains so much about everything despite my MME being a '22.

GM SuperCruise works on two lane highways, but disables the automatic lane changes on those roads. Not sure what is holding Ford back.

This tech uses radar, in addition to cameras. Mapping provides information for merging lanes, curve radius and intersections on 2 lane roads. For example, with SuperCruise it will temporarily disengage when approaching a traffic light. It also has a smooth speed predict in that it sets a constant target speed for sharp turns like highway interchanges.

GM is adding hands on lane centering and lane changes tied to navigation this year, it ships on MY 26 vehicles.

If a pre-25 Mach E had new sensors installed, would it be capable of running Blue Cruise 1.5?

I know I'm in the minority, but I ended up disabling the automatic lane change functionality in BC 1.3. The experience just wasn't very natural feeling to me, with a slightly too-long delay between activating my turn signal and the car initiating the lane change.

I'm curious if this fully-automatic lane change functionality in 1.5 is more natural feeling, but I'm not hugely disappointed that it won't arrive in my 2022 MME.

No. The hardware and software integration with the vehicle is very deep, so that's not going to be backwards compatible.

I know I'm in the minority, but I ended up disabling the automatic lane change functionality in BC 1.3. The experience just wasn't very natural feeling to me, with a slightly too-long delay between activating my turn signal and the car initiating the lane change.

I would say the lane change speed with 1.5 is about the same as 1.3. The final centering at the end is a little faster. The timing of the lane changes is very middle of the road, it gives 2-3 blinks before it starts moving over, just like you're taught in driver's ed. Yes that might be slower than how some people drive, but it's automated so it should do everything at a median pace, not too fast or slow. If I want to change lanes fast in dense traffic, then I do it myself.

So your saying this is the end for 21-24 cars, sucks for everybody who got a 24 lol.

There's a chance we could get some type of BC 1.4 update, but probably end of the road.

Totally makes sense, and thanks for this added info. What I enjoyed most about the 1.3 upgrade last year was how much better the lane centering became (and that subtle lane repositioning when needed feature). It finally made BC reliable and confident for me. These auto lane changing improvements sound nice, but not something I'm dying for. I'd prefer they invested in better BC road coverage and less gaps/disconnects on existing covered roads.

1.3 is fine though. I wish they would prioritize expanding where we can use it vs increasing its features.

The features are useless to me if there aren’t roads to use them on!
