Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 2023 Mach-E Premium and I have a question regarding the "post-charging" state of my car. I have the car setup to charge anytime, to a level of 80%, and I do not have any departure times set. Whenever the car is charging and reaches 80%, I will receive a "Charging Complete" notice on FordPass and I will hear the car shut off (pump or whatever the noise is when charging). The car however, seems to remain in a charging state as the blue indicator lights will still blink blue (4 solid, 1 blinking), and my Grizzl-e charger will continue to blink green indicating that it is charging. No matter how long I leave the charger plugged in, it appears that neither the car nor the charger will go into a standby state. If I unplug the car and plug it back in, the car and charger will go right back into the same sequence of blinking. Looking at my power consumption per hour via my electricity provider, it does not appear that any additional electricity is being used beyond a few peaks of 1-2kwh every other hour or so, with my typical baseline being .88-1.4 kwh during the same time periods prior to owning an EV. I have also tried using the Ford mobile charger, which produces the same results. Am I missing something here? The vehicle is in my garage with an ambient temperature of around 40*. I have reached out to Ford but they aren't really offering any real feedback concerning this specific situation. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Seems to be a recently introduced bug for some.

Are there any negative side affects from it occurring? Or am I good to just continue charging as normal? My wife usually only uses about 15-20% a day, so it is done charging before I go to bed, so I can always unplug it if need be.

seems to be an issue with some 23s. I identified it in my GTPE the first time I charged it (bought car on 9/26). I started a thread on this. Several of us have gone the route of contacting BEV team, setting up a case number etc.
Latest info, I talked with someone at Ford Executive office last week, she talked with the BEV team working on the issue, latest is that the OTA update to fix should go out to the cars in January. This was confirmed by another factory contact.

Read the thread here. The downside is wear and tear on the parts. Tho fordpass is stating that it continues to charge it's actually not adding any charge once threshold is reached, but I'd be curious as to what amount of electricity is used. In mine the first time I knew it happened (this is my second mach e first was a 21 premium for 2.5 years). The blue light at the charging port stayed on and you could hear the hum sound of the onboard charging system both stayed on all nite. So I have to manually shut it off with fordpass. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/charging-issue.30922/

I came across your thread when I was initially researching the issue I was having. I wasn’t sure if the two related seeing as mine does not appear to keep the onboard charging system operating (no hum or any other noise). I appreciate the feedback, and I’ll definitely continue watching for any updates in the mean time. In my situation, given that I only have energy consumption data from my service provider, it seems to be an insignificant amount of energy being used (in my case at least) after the threshold is reached. I think that I’ll probably just unplug it after charging, and push the charge frequency to every other day or so. Thanks again for the feedback!

you should also be able to just turn it off when you reach threshold (I get a notification on my phone). using fordpass "stop charging". I also unplug just to be on the safe side.

I noticed it since my 21 Escape PHEV didn't do it but mine is on a separate power meter and looking at it, it wasn't drawing any additional power once it reached the charge threshold. I didn't make any real mind of it since it didn't seem to really be wasting power, and was possibly fully topping up my 12V battery.

Ford and their issues, I love them, but I have yet to have one of my 7 Fords in the past three years not have some random issue. My current 22’ KR Superduty is going in next week for a new seat track and a shackle replaced, both of which are toast within 20,000 miles. My previous 21’ Platinum had to have the rear gear set replaced at 16,000mi. I’m used to it by now.

It's funny I bought my first mache in early 21, 2.5 years only issue was a minor software thing sorted in/out at the dealer. I was fully expecting all kinds of problems with it being an early production car. I got my 23.5 gtpe that I ordered in June and got late september. It has a charging malfunction and liftgate glitch.
