Hi All
Wife had her car now for two days and the 12v battery is already down to 11.5v 45%, will not charge and displays “pull over and get out of car safely” also battery icon showing in red on display. Luckly its in our driveway, will not go into Drive. Being towed to the dealer/service. Has charging error when plugged in. Yes, we had it plugged in overnight and when we looked this morning Ford Pass showed charging error, went out to unplug and plug back in same thing.(n)?
Didn't do an error code check while I had the obd plugged in so dont know if there are any errors codes.

Wow, what a terrible introduction to your Mach e. Hopefully just a bad 12v battery or some similarly simple fix.

Way back in 1989 got a GT that sat on the lot for a bit . Picked it up on Saturday . Sunday morning the battery was dead . While that sucked the car was an absolute beast for the remainder of the time I owned it . ZERO issues after that .
Hopefully your outcome will be the same .

Note that "plugging in" charges the HV battery. It does not necessarily guarantee that the 12V battery is going to get charged. The 12V battery gets charged if the vehicle is plugged in and the HV battery is charging. If your car has reached its charging limit, it is not charging and the 12V battery is not charging. There is software in the car that is supposed to engage the DC-DC converter to pull power out of the HV battery and charge the 12V battery. It's evolved over the years to work better than it did with the first 2021 Job1 cars but it appears that it may not necessarily be fully bullet-proof yet. ??

Or maybe you just got a bum 12V battery. ?‍♂?

While this obviously shouldn't have happened, it is not uncommon for newly delivered cars to have low 12V batteries which can lead to all sorts of issues. As crazy as it sounds, the 12V battery needed to be sufficiently charged in order for the high voltage battery (HVB) to be able to be charged. In normal usage this isn't an issue, but when a car is shipped for weeks, then sits at a dealership which in turn may have the car sit for some period of time, the 12V battery charge level can get low enough that the electronics to charge the HVB can't work (until the 12V battery is charged).

If it's any consolation, my Mach E did something similar when I took delivery of it back in 2022. In my case the car threw up virtually every code imaginable when I tried to drive it just two days after I took delivery. It was towed to a dealership and they were able to fix it up.

Ford should require that all 12V batteries be fully charged by the dealership before the car is delivered. Of course it's also possible that your 12V battery is defective. Either way, hopefully everything will be resolved soon.

The 12V battery gets charged if the vehicle is plugged in and the HV battery is charging. If your car has reached its charging limit, it is not charging and the 12V battery is not charging.
Indeed, if I notice that my 12V battery is low, I sometimes go into my charger's app and lower the max current so that it will take longer to charge the HVB but have the side benefit of getting the LVB to a higher SoC.

Tip for newbies that have current control on their L1/L2 EVSEs (chargers).

Knew most of what all of you are saying, really hadn’t had a chance to go over a lot of this stuff with the wife, and lowering the charger current. Just figured the LVB was sufficiently charged. O-well live and learn, and yes the dealers should make sure the LVB’s are charged before delivery to customer.

FYI the car was pluged into a 16A charger so low current charging anyway. Switched it to my 48A charger with no change.

We bought our MME at a dealer about 60 miles from home, so our car got a good charge on the way home. It seems like a good way to keep a good charge on the LVB is to just drive the car. Put some miles on it. It will charge the LVB while driving it and again when it's charging the HVB.

It seems the 2025’s are sitting in shipping a long time. Mine was built in Feb. shipped in March. Not sure when I will have it. But the 12v likely won’t be in good shape. I will run it through a reconditioning with a charger when it shows.

WOW. That's bananas. My car was built and shipped 5/14, and will be delivered 6/13-6/17. Wonder what on earth is taking yours so long?

I put down a deposit on a '25 that was already in transit to a local dealership. 2 weeks later it was at the railyard 50 miles away. 3 weeks after that, it was -still- at the railyard and had an updated delivery date of one full month later. I gave up and switched to a different car already on the lot. ?‍♂

Service just called, the BECM is throwing errors, they have one on order, it might show up by next week, loner vehicle in the meantime. They are saying the BECM modules are on back order at Ford but one was/is on the way to them in transit.:cry:
Wife is not happy, she has been waiting for her car since ordering Feb. 8th. was delivered May 31st picked it up Tusday, into service Thursday.

That sucks, but likely once the new BECM is installed everything will be fine. It's good that they found the problem and that Ford has a replacement on the way. Hopefully the loaner is a nice car.

Damn that really sucks. I’m not gonna lie, while I love my 2024 there’s always a random thought in the back of my mind like “I better not see any error on this drive”. lol I’m sure that’s ridiculous to some but sometimes these things happen and it’s a major pain as you know. Hopefully it comes in and gets fixed sooner than planned. Keep this thread updated on any news from service or when you get the car back. I’m interested to know how the process completes for you.
