Hi all

I leased a 2025 Premium back in July. Flawless, lovely car. I live bi-coastal at the moment, and the Mach-E sometimes sits in the garage for extended periods of time. Recently left it in the garage for 7 weeks. Started just fine, no issues with the 12V battery (i I left the HV battery at ~50% per the manual), didn’t plug it in.

When i returned, i noticed that it had an OTA update, and I thought great! Except that the software has been a bit buggy. Didn’t think much of it until i realized that the Data Sharing icon in the center display status bar disappeared. Turns out that little connection is responsible for quite a bit. Tried resetting Sync, but have not gone down the ā€œfuseā€ routeā€, or to disconnect the 12V (I’m not super handy).

I have an appointment tomorrow with the dealer. Short of a modem replacement, anything else you think might be going on?

PS - I should add that quite a few things don’t work. Lane centering isn’t available anymore. The system is slow to recognize local speed limits. The app stopped working / connecting (this was the initial pain point i suffered). The system can no longer ask Ford for OTA updates. I can’t toggle connected services on/off.

All of this is forgivable since i just enjoy driving the car, but it did amaze me at how one failure could lead to so many issues. Not exactly a great omen to drive this car without a warranty (assuming i buy it out later).

Similar to my experience, perfect from July to end of October. Bluecruise stopped working which alerted me that all communications went down. Warm up from app, search for charging stations, OTA's, etc. Dealer said TCU (modem) had to be replaced. Backordered and took almost a month to get.
All is good now.

Even ICE cars have all these electronics now. It's just something we all have to take into account as cars age. I do think they need more guardrails around the OTA updates. Having one break your car and you having to pay to fix it seems wrong.

It’s a great point. Up until my wife’s 2023 RAV4, I hadn’t driven a modern car since 2015. My current cars are 2011 and 2008, so I harken back to a simpler time when we only focused on mechanical issues.

Has anyone had to fix the modem outside of the warranty and maybe could share repair costs?

Quick update - I had the dealer complete the LED OTA recall while diagnosing this issue. Somehow the data sharing icon was back and running when i returned to the dealer. They didn’t say exactly what they did, or how they did it. They apparently didnā€˜t touch the fuses or the 12V battery. They couldn’t even give me an explanation except to say, it works, maybe it was my phone…

So, a bit of an anticlimactic ending, but there you go. I’m a bit annoyed, and relieved. Basically, in 8 months of ownership, no issues with the car at all, outside some glitches In the system.

Curiously, after activating my phone at the dealer, I received this email, which I’ve never seen before.

Annoyed and relieved feels like most of dealer trips.
