1. What’s the best approach to get the shroud or cover off to access the wiring?

2. have a wiring diagram to know which pins provide key activated positive and a ground?

You just pull down on it. I have a Dongar brand that doesn't seem to be available currently. It is essentially the same as this one.

Move the mirror down, pull down on the cover to pop it loose, then unplug the mirror power and add this adapter between the two connectors. I used a hot glue gun to tack the wiring and the USB block in place. Mine came with a short USB cable. I'm not sure if this one does. I was able to pop the cover back in place over the cable. If you want, you can use a small round file to make a cutout for the cable. That's it. It'll be powered when the "ignition" is on and it will be off when the car is off.

Here's what it looks like under there. You can see where the cover clips in, and the wiring connector is a bit obscured by the mirror, but you can see it there on the right.

I have found that video already. However, it doesn’t show how to get the cover off AND it’s for a 2022 vs my 2026. Unsure if the wiring is still the same.
Wiring is the same. The Dongar adapter is the easiest way to supply power. (I have them in all my cars).

I circled the slots that the clips go into. You can see here that what you want to do is pull down away from the windshield. Start with the upper left clip and then you can really get your fingers under it.

I would not try to mount a radar detector if I were you.
My '25 has a metalized windshield where radar signals do not and will not penetrate.

I learned that the hard way when I tried to get my Tidal Wave car wash sticker on my windshield to trigger the gate at the car wash to open, I tried 4 different locations for the sticker on my windshield. Would not work at all. Now I keep a laminated sticker in the door, I open the driver's window to hold the sticker up to the sensor now for gate entry

Just to double-check my suspicions, I set my high-dolllar detector to X-Band Only and drove by a local known X-Band roadside speed sensor, it did not beep at all, even though the speed sensor was accurately detecting my speed duriing several passes!

1) mounting to mirror stem, not window
2) have had consistent response from my Escort detector

Oh good! I will now assume they don't make them all with metalized windshields.
Good to know and good luck on your installation. Please let us know how it goes...

I have a 25 GT and my Uniden R8 works perfectly. I installed that as well as a Vantrue N4 Pro S using the Dongar adapter that Jesseand Tom mentioned. I installed everything after the entire windshield was tinted with the UV blocking film along with the darker strip along the top. The detector has phenomenal range, and have had zero issues since installing it about 4 months ago. I even have a Sunpass Pro portable transponder for the toll roads mounted in the upper corner behind the dark tint strip. All okay in my car.

There’s a lot going on up there! Ha!
Yeah, my daily commute is about 80 miles or so, depending on which way I go, and have driven almost 11K miles since December. The 3 channel dash cam saved me from a potential insurance scam in my other car a while back, so I believe in them (as well as a good detector)! You can see the rear facing camera in the mirror's reflection. I had to get a little creative with mouting that one inside of the car, as I did not want to mount it to the glass and have the cable exposed enough to flex with the rear hatch opening.

I used a piece of 1/16" x 1" aluminum flat metal bent to a 90, and inserted it through a carefully cut (and cauterized) slit in the headliner material. Camera (of course) is mouted to that. Just painted it black to match the interior, and all you can see is the camera, and about an inch or so of the connection cable as it loops back towards the aluminum bar. I hated to do that, but it came out pretty clean, and is positioned well. I realize this isn't related to the original post, but thought I'd share.

What?? REALLY??? I have the Uniden R8 also, upgraded from my older R7.

I have a Georgia PeachPass (headlight pass) installed now

This doesn't make sense in my case..strange!

I do have the MachE Sport Appearance Package, do you think that may be my problem with a metalized windshield? I'm puzzled now...
