21/22 vs 23 Wireless Charging Insert Mat

I didn’t really see this posted anywhere else but thought it was an interesting little fact. 2023 wireless charging insert has a triangular space instead of a vertical line. Phone sits in it a slight angle. With an iPhone 14 Pro Max in a Peak Design case, it barely fits width-wise.​

Every 2022 I looked at, I saw the old style. Maybe just did it mid model, definitely possible.

My 22 has the new design. So they changed it in the 22 model year run.

My 22 built in April has the vertical line. Is the new one any better at helping it charge while CarPlay is running with maps on the screen? Been looking to buy one to try but don’t know the part number.

I wouldn’t say it’s better but it does seem to hold the phone a little better. The angle helps keep it in place from the effects of inertia. I have the one from 21 so I may try it for a while in the 23 and compare.

My June build 22 has the newer style. I prefer it to the old style. Phone fits better.

the one that came with my 23 just makes the phone (14 pro) overheat. i went with the aftermarket one that the guy sells here. has magsafe and works great.

They also changed the charging device underneath the mat, as well as the orientation of the chargers. The older ones are straight with the car's axis, but the new ones are angled towards the driver.

You can't swap the mats because then your phone won't be aligned properly.

Resurrecting this as I went on the hunt for it based on the "goodwill gift" form Ford for doing the HVBJB recall. So then you think Ford is doing a mat similar to this for older MMEs then? If they can't just ship us these ones? Or do you think they may have buffed it and are sending us the 2023 mats that won't work for us lol

I have a '23 and the mat in there sucks too, when using Android Auto and "charging", it can't keep, up and the phone gets very hot. I disconnected it.

That's not entirely the mat, but the 5 watt charger they installed.

My 5/22 build '22 came with the new style. Was still awful; Twraps charger SO much better.

Has anyone received the updated mat for the HVJB goodwill program yet? It would be nice if it was one that matches the latest Qi2 standard with magnets, but that's probably unlikely.
