22S41 and charging issues

I took my mach-e for recall related to 22S41. I also complained about charging error where when I try to charge using Ford provided charger at home, I get 'Car had error while charging' and charging stops.

Service guy at dealer mentioned 22S41 recall fix for BECM would also take care of issue with charging mentioned above. - Can anyone help confirm if this is correct?

I don't think so.
That message usually means the EVSE itself faulted out. Usually due to thermal management. Are you using the Ford Mobile EVSE that was provided with the vehicle? If so, that is known to get hot and fault out. If possible, try placing a fan to direct airflow across the unit and that should help.

I am using the charger that ford provides with vehicle purchase. Not sure EVSE means?

Same thing. They call it an EVSE because it doesn't actually charge the car. Just provides power to the charger that is under your hood. We all pretty much use those two terms interchangeably though.

So, that mobile EVSE that came with your car will function but it's what I call a 'solid state' contactor type vs a more traditional contactor type. So, it will work but it makes some waste heat in the process. In many cases, it can get too warm and will lower it's power or shut off completely to cool down.

I know it's extra cost but you might want to consider buying a 3rd party EVSE and then put that mobile unit back in the storage area under the floor for times when you are away from home (visiting friends and neighbors, camp grounds etc). If you check with your local utility then you might get lucky and find a good deal on a name brand that will plug right into the outlet you already have in place.

ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Clipper Creek, Wallbox, etc etc. They all are pretty good. There are several threads on here that talk about the various options.

So the charger (EVSE) gets overheated and fails. The work around is to buy a 3rd party charger (EVSE).
