Using two wire Romex for 240 volts if the device doesn't need a neutral is ok and meets code. A/C units don't need a neutral and typically use 8/2 or whatever size is needed. If you run 6/3 to a Tesla charger and hardwire it the neutral is capped inside and not used. Finding a white wire on a 2 pole breaker would not be a surprise to an electrician.
That's how they wired my 240v 20amp circuit and it passed inspection last year.

yup. That’s usually acceptable if you have a single outlet on its own circuit. You just wrap the neutral in black tape to indicate it’s hot and change it to the correct receptacle.

Curious of the outlet type on the 20A 240v circuit? If it's a NEMA 5-20R, you can get a converter plug for the ford mobile charger and use the 120v on the charger. It'll auto-detect 240v and charge at 13A 240V. This is a bit faster than the standard 120v.
Thanks for posting this. I have spent the last week scouring the internet for that fact. Been charging my Volt at 3 kWh for years using the stock L1 EVSE on a 30A 240V circuit.

Knowing I can use the Ford L1 plug with the wiring I have now helps a lot. I realize 3 kWh amounts to a trickle charge on an 88 kWh battery, but most of my charging is done away from home and 120+ miles overnight when I need it is not bad. Will keep the vampires away when winter cold sets in also.

Really happy with Charge Point Flex and the 24hr tech support. Was able to install myself to a 240V 20amp circuit. Works great and I'm able to monitor my monthly energy consumption via the Charge Point app. Really helpful when the electric bill comes around.
