255/45/19 VS 235/50/19

I’m ordering a set of 19 inch CrossClimate2. I’m debating 255/45 or 235/50 and saving some money. Thoughts? They’ll be going on Niche Gamma 19X8.5” wheels. The 235’s are a decent amount cheaper but I see a lot of people running these in a 255/45. I also don’t want to totally tank my range.

I created a chart comparing the 2 tire sizes:

Note that the 255 will have more rolling resistance because it is 20% wider, but a firmer (shorter) sidewall for better corning. The 235 should have a slightly softer ride due it its slightly taller sidewall. Your speedometer will have a very small variance (see chart), and negligibly slower 0-60 times.

My Rally has 235/55/19 as stock tires; however, my chart only compares your 2 proposed tire sizes.

Lastly, I suspect you could experience marginally better range on the 235 tires, but handling may suffer slightly.

I love my Rally, but I am considering a set of rims and summer tires for fantastic warm weather handling and better range.
