How many of you guys can’t stand the annoying backup sound generated by the MME? I wish ford would provide an alternative sound or five to choose from. Truly this is the thing I absolutely hate about my car.

There is a law in Canada requiring electric vehicles (EVs) to have a backup sound.
Here's a summary of the law:

* Mandate: All new hybrid and electric vehicles sold in Canada must have sound emitters that produce noise at low speeds.
* Purpose: To increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities who may not hear quiet EVs approaching.
* Sound characteristics: Automakers can choose the type of sound, but it must be loud enough and change in pitch to indicate whether the vehicle is speeding up or slowing down.
* Effective date: The requirement came into effect on December 21, 2022.
Additional details:
* The law applies to light-duty passenger vehicles, including cars, SUVs, trucks, and buses with a gross weight rating of 4,536 kg or less.
* The sound must be emitted when the vehicle is moving at low speeds and when reversing.

This law aims to make Canadian roads safer for everyone by ensuring that EVs are audible to other road users.

My friend has a Civic Hybrid and his backup sound is at least a little more pleasant sounding. Kinda reminds me of a what a UFO landing in your backyard would sound like. MME sounds like a damn construction zone. Or when standing in line at Wallyworld and the Fat lady throws her electric cart in reverse. I’d really like to see an update that gives some different options for the sound.

It’s possible to rid yourself and your car of this sound, search the forum, there is a thread or two with good solutions.

The law seems to state that there needs to be a sound. I don't see anything about it needing to be an annoying beep that sounds like a delivery truck. No this complaint is NOT ridiculous.

What part of your driving are you in reverse? That being said, with the radio on it's barely audible. And it should be annoying to those that need to be aware of a vehicle backing up.

Several years ago I began hearing an unusual and heretofore unknown repeating sound somewhere in my immediate neighborhood. Intrigued by the unusual nature of this sound, I made an effort to find its source whenever I heard it. It sounded to me like a sonar sweep (like you see in the movies) followed by a brief electronic hiccup. 'Sweep-Hic, Sweep-Hic...etc. Finally discovered its source one day. I was gazing out my upstairs window as my next door neighbor was backing his recently new Nissan Leaf out of his driveway. I thought it was a cool sound and definitely got my attention. How about it Ford?

I hardly hear it. Haven’t had the urge to disable it. Maybe some people are embarrassed by it??‍♂

I’ve had my MME for about a year, and it wasn’t until a couple of months back I heard that beeping sound, so I stopped thinking it was another car backing up… it is not loud, its a safety issue IMO since herd in FL we have “great” drivers. The reason I didn’t notice it before, I have my music on before I put my car in reverse. This actually reminds me of a post about someone who removed the Pony logos and everything that said the MME was a Mustang because he was embarrassed to be driving a MME. Things like this lets me know that when people complain about stuff like that, they will always have something to complain about.

Turn the volume up and you won’t hear the beeping.
