The article from Android Police reports that Google Maps is receiving a major upgrade thanks to Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant platform. The update introduces hands-free, conversational navigation where you can issue natural language commands while driving, such as asking for nearby restaurants or adding calendar events. It also brings landmark-based directions (e.g., “turn right after the Thai Siam restaurant”) and proactive traffic alerts that notify you of disruptions even when not actively navigating. Additionally, the integration of the camera (via Google Lens) lets you identify places through the phone’s view and ask questions about them. The rollout begins in the U.S. on Android and iOS devices where Gemini is supported.

The upcoming Polestar 4 will be the first vehicle to feature Google Maps Live Lane Guidance, a new camera- and AI-based navigation enhancement that detects which lane the car is in by analyzing road markings and signage, then provides real-time visual and audio alerts when lane changes are needed. InsideEVs The system is designed to improve the accuracy of traditional GPS navigation—particularly in complex or GPS-poor environments—by displaying a live lane-specific visualization on the instrument cluster, and aims to reduce missed exits or on-ramps. InsideEVs Initially, it will launch on select highways in Sweden and the U.S., with broader rollout and possible expansion to other models expected in the coming months. InsideEVs

Don't expect the live lane guidance in the Mach-E. From what I recall reading that's only for cars using the Android Automotive platform (which is not Android Auto).

That is correct.

If only ford could add Apple Maps and Google Maps integration to the IPC. I would love to be able to have a small map on the drivers display kind of like BMW has.

Literally the only thing I want is to be able to customize the drivers display more. I’ve had older fords that would give you soo much information and you could even have it display what music was playing. I feel like there wasn’t much work put into the drivers display on the Mach-E. I mean I guess it’s better than having everything crammed into a display in the middle.

I would bet it will come to AA eventually. Originally, routing to chargers integrated with the car's battery charge level, as well as preconditioning the car when you set a fast charger as a destination, were part of Android Automotive only too. But as you all know, it now works on regular Android Auto. Essentially, these are the same core program, just one is pre-installed in the car.

This is just a guess, besides Android Automotive is coming to Ford in future models
