Occasionally when braking there will be a momentary 'blip' where the brakes let go then re-engage. I am talking a fraction of a second, but you feel it. It is random, I can not replicate it on purpose, can happen when braking smoothly or hard. It does only seem to happen with regular braking, I have never noticed it using 1-pedal drive.

Anyone else?

Thoughts?

It is unnerving when it happens.

Shawn.

If it happens right before stopping it might be when the friction brakes has to take over from regen. Regen don't work at very slow speeds, so during braking to a full stop the friction brakes as to take over fully at some point. It will do its best to try to make it un-noticeable, but there might be some fuzzy logic where it has to learn how much force it needs to match the regen force I would suspect.

I had it happen a couple times yesterday. Never noticed anything like that during the previous 14k miles so It is something new.

I wondered to myself if the tires are starting to lose grip because that is what it felt like to me. ???

Thanks for the replies. I will try to see if it is happening while breaking over bumps. Certainly a new feeling, making me think it is an interaction with the ABS and regenerative braking. Has never happened in our Escape hybrid, only on the MME.

This used to happen on my Focus Electric. But on that car, it was REALLY bad. The MME has much smoother action when stopping kinda hard on uneven/bumpy roads.

I have had this happen only twice and both times it was in the same exact place.
As I slow down to enter an apartment complex I make a right turn while slowing from 45mph with 1pd. By the time I make the turn my speed is probably 15-20 mph and there in an incline. Right as the vehicle is going up the incline, with the front wheel turned to the right, it releases the brakes or regen and then immediately applies the brakes or restarts regen.
It has not happened any other time or anywhere else.
