My 23 premium bricked in a parking lot and they couldn’t explain it. In the process of getting it to them, my underbody cover was torn by the tow company (had to file a claim for that) and the second tow company they sent out (I know…) allegedly jumped the battery (they didn’t, the dealer is full of it) and now my battery cable is “bad” (had to file a second claim for that with roadside). After 3 trips to the dealer for 12v battery issue after battery issue, my buy back was approved. I’m very hesitant to jump back in to an EV, much less a Mach-E. I loved that car when it worked, but I have t even had it in my possession long enough to rotate the tires.

Does anyone have an idea how long the process takes from here? Weeks? Months? I got my approval in 6 days, so I’m hoping it’s quick but I’ve seen all kinds of numbers on the forums.

I'll say you had bad luck since I'm a year in and zero issues with my 23 Premium RWD.

Fortunately, the EV space is populated with a ton of different options so go test drive a bunch while you wait.

I believe you had the 12V discharge bug that bricked it, and they roasted your 12V system with how they jumped it. It was all downhill from there. While EV’s are mechanically simpler, the control systems are not. Sorry to hear you had to do a buy-back. Be the first in line for a 2025! Good luck!

Alas, I just had to take my 2023 to the shop. For a tire rotation. This was the 10k service that I got around to after a few road trips. It has been trouble-free for me, so not always bad news with these cars.

It took 45 days after they agreed to my buy back. Submit all your receipts including gas, level 2 charger and installation, seat covers, etc… it was all reimbursed. I also had a 23’ that was lemons- there are still lots of problems with the ‘23 per the dealer. I ended up buying a non ford plug in hybrid.

Good call on the charger, I hadn’t thought of that!

How does the 12V system get roasted from improper jumping?

I would encourage you to stay in the EV space. I've read a lot of articles that hybrid owners rarely charge their battery (Plug-in Hybrid).

The used EV market seems ripe for the picking. Good Luck and sorry that happened to you.

I think my dealer is giving me a line at this point. First of all, I sat there the entire time the two drivers worked on it, it was never jumped. Secondly, it was having said issues prior to the bricking where they accuse me of jumping it.

Ah, okay. I was generally curious, reading my comment again I realize it can also come across as sarcastic. I just jumped my MME - well, connected an ICE to it, revved it up to juice up the MMEs battery then I had enough charge to turn on the car. I was wondering if I could have damaged it that way or another.

Good, that means I don’t have to go into a 5 paragraph dissertation on voltage stabilization in modern electronics. I would expect all but the most broken of jump boxes to be within adequate voltage range to not cause damage.

You did not go into a lot of detail here on your challenges. I would expect those challenges could be fixed by resetting software settings and power cycling the 12V system. Actual failure of the car is not likely. One or more of the modules might have been bad, or even an internal connection in something like the Gateway module could cause all kinds of strange issues. I am surprised they could not isolate and resolve the issues.

I called 1-800-392-3673 and once i got through the menu (took seconds) I told the rep that I wanted to initiate buy back paperwork. It was extremely smooth.
