I just took a road trip that went pretty well. But now I'm thinking about how this trip would go in the winter, when range is reduced.

Is there a rule of thumb or multiplier for converting summer range to winter range? Or maybe for converting summer mi/kWh to winter mi/kWh?

How do you plan a winter road trip, given the sometimes dramatically lower range, since EV route calculators are usually working off the EPA rating?

You should assume a 30 - 40% drop. 3m/kWh becomes 1.8 - 2.1. There are a gibillion (yes) threads on here with people screaming about their range drop.

I get about 240 or so in summer. Winter was 160 at one point. 33% drop.

You can alter the efficiency in apps like ABRP. Ford Nav will adjust also.

In central Alaska, I averaged 1.7-1.8 mi/kWh for the entire winter.
