I recently read that you shouldn't charge above 80% while DC fast charging ( i never level 3 charge ) I've only had the Mach-E for about 2 weeks. I charge for free at work! -- Should/can i be charging to 100% on the level 2 charger at work? So far i have not charged above 80% at work. the charger at work is 5KW charge rate if that helps info wise.

It's not that you "shouldn't" charge above 80% when doing DCFC. It's just that the charge rate slows down considerably above 80%, so you're probably better off time wise to just stop and move on to the next segment of your trip (next charger down the road).

Do you NEED to charge to 100%? If not, then try to be in the 80-20 range for best long term battery health. I charge twice a week to 90% at work. It's free and I know that I'm going to be driving home, which will run the battery down by 10%-15% depending on the season, so I'll spend most of my time in the 80-20 range.

Bottom line: charge to what you need to get you around. Knowing that being closer to 50% is better long term than being closer to 100% or 0%.

Ford recommends limiting it to 90% for daily level 2 charging.

You can charge above 80% at a DCFC, but the rate slows way down, so it will take a while. And if the station charges per minute, it can get expensive.
Thanks -- i was unable to find the recommended limit so i appreciate the info. I will schedule my level 2 work charger to stop at 90%

The important thing to remember is that extended time at either end of the charge level spectrum (low or high) is what accelerates battery wear. If you are going on a long trip and your first charge stop requires you to use 90% of your battery capacity, go ahead and charge to 100%. It’s not going to dwell that long at 100% of usable capacity for that long. Likewise, if you need to “drain” it to 2-3% to make a charge station, go ahead (just drive judiciously). ??

If I could charge at work, I would charge to 100%, and arrive at home at under 85%. Then I would charge to 90% at home overnight, and rinse and repeat. Because free charging!
