So, coincidently, I just picked up a pair of the tire socks from Les Schwab for our Volvo and they happened to fit the GT, so it got to try them out first.
1) They didn't cost too much more than my chains, which was kinda surprising given the nich-ness, I think $125 for a pair
2) Definitely takes up less storage space
3) On a GT there really isn't much clearance to work with (barely could even get my fingers to fit by the springs), had to roll the tires 3 times to really get them on, but that probably makes these socks quite useful because I'm not sure what chains would fit on a GT.
4) Overall very easy to put on once you get over that you can't do it in 1 or 2 passes, super easy to take off, don't forget to pick them up once you roll off
5) Didn't go far as they had the main roads cleared, but seemed pretty capable. 25mph limit on them, and definitely not the same grip as the chains on my escape, but these will be quite handy.
6) With AWD, I put them on the front... not sure that's right but I like to be able to steer and for this I was just getting out of the neighborhood, eventually I'll get another set though so it'll get all socked up.
Obligatory "would never have taken my old Mustang to do this" photo of proof
Final note, wasn't sure what to expect with these stock Continentals when getting back home to our hill, but had no problem getting back on the compacted snow.
