Don't really use this feature so I'm probably doing something wrong. Tried to connect yesterday to listen to a pod cast and a pop up said I needed to plug the phone in to usb. It worked but I thought it should have been wireless.

What am I doing wrong? Did a recent update "break" this feature?

Try rebooting sync. Hold the next track button and the volume down button on the steering wheel until the main screen goes dark. That usually resets CarPlay issues. Other thing to try is selecting your phone from the phone list and pressing the connect button (sort of looks like a play button).

New iPhone 13. I did select the connect button and that's when the window popped up and said to plug it in. It worked plugged in, just not wireless.

It has worked wireless in the past, my wife used it all the time. Me.....not so much.

I'll try it again next time and re-boot is necessary.

thanks for the help

There are CarPlay issues atm. Mine is problematic at best. The good news is that Ford has many cars in advanced analytics atm gathering tons of info. There also are a couple of reports that 4.1.2, the UI Update, has stable CarPlay again. Generally, a sync reboot or two works to resolve things for me, but not always. When it doesn’t, it will usually connect my phone after I press the connect button following a <phone name> has been disconnected message. If none of that works, it almost always work properly on the next start up. ?‍♂

I’m using an old iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Thanks again. The most recent update I received was the GOM recalibration, can't remember the version. 4.x.x?

Interesting - still at 3.6.1 and CarPlay is fine. Do I need to worry about the next power up update? :)

with I phone had to Turn on CarPlay in settings to make it work wireless otherwise it wanted a usb connection. Tried it both ways but neither mode cleared another problem. If listening to a podcast and you get an incoming call the podcast continues to play and competes with the call. very annoying. Anyone have a suggestion to resolve this?

I've been having more issues recently than ever with CarPlay (have had car for 8-10 weeks). It seems I always have to go into settings on the car display, select the phone which is recognized by blutooth, and click on the airplay icon to enable it every time

I don't see this issue. I do have to go in and force it to connect to carplay once the phone is picked up by Bluetooth. Phone calls do interrupt my podcasts. I'm using Audacy so, not sure if that matters at all, I would think not.

Hi there! If you can send over a private message containing your VIN and dealership info, I'd be happy to check things out on my end.

Using Amazon for podcasts with iPhone 12 and have the issue of both podcast and phone call volume competing both in car play mode and when car play is disabled. Literally have to pick up phone exit car mode and pause podcast

I’ve been having wireless CarPlay issues ever since I got all software modules updated at the dealership a month ago. They made sure to install all the latest updates/modules and I confirmed the before and after. That improved my problematic phone-as-key operation… making it work 95% of the time instead of like 20% of the time. However, it broke wireless CarPlay which is intermittent… works on the way to the store, but not on the way back kinda thing. I have not tried rebooting Sync with the Volume Down + Previous Track buttons on the steering wheel, but will give that a go. Thanks all for the info everyone!

yeah the 3.x powerup versions of Sync have some CarPlay wonkiness. My issues are around phone switching (like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and requires a reboot to pick up the other phone again .... or never, and you have to delete / repair the CarPlay phone entry).

Also, sometimes, Sync isn't providing the EV-specific battery SOC data to CarPlay. Sometimes this happens before you start navigating somewhere with Apple Maps. Other times, you'll be driving and Siri will tell you that "Apple Maps no longer has reliable battery information from your car". When it loses the EV-specific battery infromation, the Mach-E will also fail to show next-turn directions in the IPD display from CarPlay. It seems that a Sync reboot solves this, but it's a flaky problem so every so often randomly this will happen.

I'm hoping Ford's Elves press the right buttons so I can get the newer UI and hopefully some fixes for the poor QA that went into the CarPlay connector for the Sync version that preceeds it.
