Wouldn’t it be easier to find a touchless car wash?

In my city there are very few touchless car washes. The ones that do exist are in bad neighborhoods, are 10 years old and poorly maintained and the rain takes more dirt off the car than they do lol. However new touch car washes have been popping up on every corner like gas stations over the last 5+ years.

If I need to look at the car at an angle with the sun shining just right in order to even see these micro scratches then I don’t worry about it. These are daily drivers not garage kept classics.

True. I had to do some searching to find a chain of them near me. The beat-my-car-with-a-dirty-rag washes are indeed everywhere and they charge you $25 for the privilege to do so.

Wouldn't it be nice if Ford could come up with a fix for that flimsy little charge port cover‽

Others have suggested a locking cover or some heavy duty springs (like the old metal gas covers), or an inside release switch.

Some of us can no longer handwash a vehicle, and must rely on modern conveniences.

My 2022 Escape Hybrid had a locked fuel filler door and a switch on the instrument panel to release it. No reason the MME can't have something similar, but by the time Ford gets around to doing something about it, they will have discontinued the car..

My solution. Aircraft speed tape. Should work fine.

How true! Nothing a little Speed tape can’t handle. Hey if it works for a this Boeing 767, a car wash doesn’t stand a chance!

I find that not using car washes works best for me.

I felt the same until I turned 78 and developed Osteoarthritis

I saw a Honda Prologue a few days ago without its charge port cover. Sadly, I wasn’t able to grab an image of it. On the other hand, guess what, it’s not just a Ford issue. Whether that’s good or bad or something else depends on which end of the telescope you’re looking through.

oh, FWIW, I’m 79 and still hand wash the cars, weather permitting as I judge weather. (Good news, I don’t need a steep ladder or one step stool to reach half way access the roof of my Gen 4 Mazda 3…only need those aides for the MME.).

Understood, we all have different capabilities at whatever our ages may be. That isn’t a “value judgement “. It’s just the way it is and we each have to make peace with our circumstances.

For all I know, what I can and cannot do can turn on a dime; tomorrow is a new day and maybe I won’t be able to wash the car ever again.

So, no offense intended to those who aren’t able for whatever reason to wash the car by hand. Maybe the aero grade duck tape as suggested above is an answer.

Never had the charging door pop open, but I do steal part of every carwash I take the Mach-e through

Every single time this panel gap behind the headlight (on both sides) takes a tendril of rag with it as a memento.

If the OP is serious, I prefer just using some painters tape.

I used 1 inch painter's tape and it still ripped my door off. Consider using thicker tape or a suction phone like the OP.
