I hope this isn’t covered elsewhere and if it is, please point me in the direction of the post/thread. I currently have an iPhone X paired with Sync 4a via Bluetooth and setup for Apple CarPlay. The phone is also set up as PAAK which works the majority of the time. All this was done the night of delivery of my car by my salesman who was very knowledgeable about the Mach E. My wife bought me an Apple iPhone 12 Pro which will replace the iPhone X which I’m selling to Gazelle. I’ve made a backup of the iPhone X on my Mac so I should have that covered (I may call Apple support as far as pairing my Apple Watch to the new phone; I think you have to unpair it first with the existing iPhone). Since the salesman paired my phone and setup PAAK I am concerned about doing this myself. I see under settings where I can remove my iPhone X and add a new phone (iPhone 12 Pro) So I should be able to handle that. How do I set the iPhone 12 Pro to Apple Car Play? I think there is a dialog box to do it but I haven’t done it yet myself. I’m totally clueless about PAAK. I thought I read somewhere where the old settings have to be erased (old codes, etc.) and you have t go through the process of setting it up again; is this correct? Does my wife’s PAAK have to be erased as well? How is the new phone added to my Personalization page? I need some hand holding here so anyone who has done it please let me know how to do it or point me to your post covering it. Again, I apologize if this has already been covered so please just point me in the direction of the past thread. Thank you for any help.

Well, I'll finish this thread because it was much ado about nothing it turns out. The setup in the car pairing the phone with Sync 4a, Apple Car Play and Phone as a Key all went well and I was able to do these tasks with no real trouble. The trouble came earlier right away when I tried to set up the new iPhone 12 Pro from a backup I did on the old iPhone X to my Mac. Kept getting error messages about being unable to connect to server. Had to escalate the case to a senior advisor who had me remove and reinstall the iOS in the new phone but this time it was iOS 14.7 and that's what the problem was. My backup was done with the current iOS (14.7) on the iPhone X and the new iPhone 12 Pro most have been sitting around in it's case and was running an older iteration of iOS. Once he figured that out we reinstalled the software for the phone using iOS 14.7 and the backup restoring the new phone went without a hitch. In a few weeks they'll come out with the final release of iOS 15 and I'll be downloading that with no problems hopefully..

I knew you could do it, Mike! Congratulations on the new phone and on successfully donning the Tech Dude hat through the setup process. ?

Thank you. I guess I was afraid of the unknown as this was done for me initially when I bought the car. As far as the problem with the two different iOS versions, I was aware that this could be a problem but would have never known how to remedy the situation like the higher level Apple tech advisor did.

Pretty simple and straight forward. I have seen no user cause hardware to start to smoke by playing with user settings. There is a reset menu and help also in the worse cases. Nothing you can do will make it undrivable with your fob. Best to do it yourself and after a few times (4 here) you can slap a no fear sticker on it. Good to hear the first one went well.

The good news is that is exactly how the phone upgrade system is supposed to work. Of course, it doesn't always go so well.

You’re right about that in this instance. I have upgraded about four times and never had a problem with any of the iPhones doing the procedure flawlessly until this incident. I backup to the cloud every day but do full backups to my Mac and this is what I use when I get a new iPhone. Just be sure the iOS is the same on the backup and your new iPhone.

Hello Illinibird,
Have a similar situation and found this thread. Glad to hear it ended up well, but can you clarify whether you first removed the old phone before adding the new or vice versa?

Yes, I first removed the old phone (iPhone X) on the phone section of the Sync 4a then I added a new phone (iPhone 12 Pro) new one added.
