Can you clarify something for me, what if I just pulled up and plugged in? Does this communicate or do you have to select the charger?

That’s called Plug & Charge and it’s a separate thing you set up in the FordPass app for Electify America or EVgo app for EVgo.

Charge assist can be used instead of P&C to start charging at EA, and at many other types of stations that don’t support P&C. You do have to select the charger.

This right here is a missed opportunity for me. CCS already creates an IPv6 network between the car and charger, so very high-level messages can be passed between the charge station and car easily - for example, the actual "name" or "ID" of the station, not just a MAC address. So why can't I plug my car in, have my car sense the station ID, and ask me if I am sure I want to charge at <Staton name>? This whole playing the matching game is insane.

Yes, I know this would require cooperation from charging companies - but isn't this the whole point of technology? Making life easier, rather than just "Do what we did before, but on computers"?
