I had occasion to remove the driver side trunk cover yesterday. Gave me a chance to see what I have been reading about over the last couple years.

So, I located the manual release cable, but see that it appears to be taped to a wiring harness. I have tugged on it, but didn't really want to take a chance by being too aggressive.

Ben, the EV guy, mentioned it in his video from a couple years ago. He seemed to think there is glue holding the loop in place.

Any advice on getting the loop to detach would be appreciated. I couldn't get a proper photo to post here. Of course, I don't want to cause damage that will come out of my pocket!

If you have to use it, just pull it out and rip the tape so you can get your fingers in the loop. Then firmly pull the loop for several seconds so the tension gets to the locking pin.

The tape is just holding the loop so it doesn't fall down into the fender when not in use. When you're done with it, just put another piece of tape on to hold it like before.

This is great content that I needed when a CCS charger wouldn’t disconnect my Mach E. Let me say you don’t want to have to deal with this 1500 miles from home in 100° heat.

I needed to use my coupler release cable a few weeks ago. I found it and pulled on it but nothing happened. I pulled a few more times and finally it broke, falling out of reach down the fender. Had to get towed to Ford to release the coupler. Not a great experience!
