Thoughts on purchasing a charge port cover. I do my main charging at home in the garage. I do occasionally use a LV2 if I’m shopping etc. I live in Seattle where it may occasionally rain. Your thoughts on this type of accessory?

for rain it's less of an issue than snow forming ice in winter climates while charging. Ice and snow can get packed in and make it hard to close or open the charge port door.

with that said, the Ford charge port weather kit is pretty good. I have this for both my mach-e's and use it in the winter. for rain, you could simply use the rubber insert piece and not use the fabric door cover.

Portland, Oregon owner. The rain is not a concern. Ice accumulation is. Don’t charge during an ice storm outside and you’ll be perfectly fine.

Ice accumulation isn't a major concern either. The charger is weather-rated. The ice will pass over the charging port. It takes very little effort to knock it all off. The charging cord comes right out when iced. My Lightning is outside all the time.

I've done the same with the Leaf we used to have, too.

Sorry, I haven't charged the Mach E out in the freezing rain but I'm sure it would be fine as well. I keep the Mach E covered in the carport.

If you keep your car in a garage or even a covered carport, don't worry about it.

If this is a regular problem where you live and you keep the car outside, you can get the weather cover.

Just ordered this tonight - for the last two years I've been using my own version with a cut-out piece of thick rubber mat which has worked very well. I don't cover the charge port door, but worst I've had to do is clean off icy snow accumulation from the door plunger, and clean around the port to get the door to close, but snow doesn't stick to it really anyway.

Having said that, the door cover will just make it a bit quicker to get going, and I like little solutions like this.

So - it's a bit of a nice to have, and it's equally easy enough to craft your own solution if you are a bit handy.
