So you have been fast charging and not pushing the button to disconnect? That should be done EVERY session. It's also on the screen inside the car.

Manual...
Never got stuck never pushed the button
Charge almost

Button is only from DC fast charging, not level 2.

If you stop it on the charger it may unlock, but that can set charge faults so it’s best to use the unlock button. And you probably shouldn’t be charging to 100% on a DC charger.
This has been me every time so far. I end the session on the charger and it unlatches the plug. I think I'd clicked the button a few times just because.
However I did help a new owner prove out that her car wouldn't L3 with a salesman. That required clicking stop many a time and hoping it'd let go of the cable. Something was way off with her car. P&C acted like mine, just doesn't work. But then when it would fault it wouldn't let go. Spent about 30 min trying things with that car. Poor lady was ~70+, and salesman was clueless.

I never use the button to release the port. At EA, I stop the charge by the charging station and it releases. Circle K, FPL and some others via their app. I don't think I ever felt like I was forcing the release button. I will pay attention next time I publicly charge.

You’re not forcing anything. Stopping the charge via the station or app still unlocks the charge port.
Do you get a “Charging Fault…” message on the IP when stopping like that?

To be clear, “forcing” would occur if you directly tried to remove the plug from the car (by pressing down the latch) while it was actively DC charging, rather than stopping it by any other means. I’ve observed Mach-E owners doing this before.

Personally, I always stop the charge with the unlock button on the screen first, then by the time I get out, it’s already unlocked. I think that’s the fastest way.

Electrify America operates the station but it was funded/planned by EVolveNY. They also have some EVConnect stations that are also part of the EVolveNY program - but I think most of those are L2. So it might be that EA does all of their L3 and EVConnect does the L2 (not 100% sure on that, just a guess).

https://evolveny.nypa.gov/
All EVolve NY locations are DCFC sites, about half are in the EA network, the rest are in the EV Connect network.

With over 40 locations along major NY highways, always good to know if one or more are along your route when traveling in NY.

I
Was charging at an EA/ Evolve charging station in upstate NY. (Don’t know what the combined name indicates) The charger would not activate and when I tried to remove the plug It would not budge. Year ago a friend had a similar problem with a Tesla and took hours to resolve. Was not happy. My wife came over to see why I was upset. Showed her the stuck plug. She saw what she called a button inside the charging ring in the E charging port. It had backlit writing I didn’t have a chance to read. She pushed it, I heard a click and the plug released.

I have owned the car since 12/21 and never knew the center of the charging display ring in the charging port was a button, and never saw it lit, possibly because I never had a stuck plug.

Just posting to tell others my experience not really knowing if my experience was just a lucky coincidence or an actual procedure for releasing a stuck plug, never had seen the center of the charging ring display a message, and was not aware it was a pushable button.

Posting because it might help someone else and hoping someone can clarify what actually happened.
I Just happened to be sitting at a Tesla charger when I read this string. When I finished charging I ended the session on the Tesla app. I heard the usual sounds of the car and charger winding down, them a click. A message appeared in the main display that said the charging cable had been released. I got out, the charging lights were all white and the cable and adapter released easily with no button press. No charge fault message.

Can anyone confirm that the car itself needs to be unlocked in order to unplug from a DC charger? The manual does NOT state this but other EVs do. It does state that the vehicle remote needs to be nearby.

I struggled to unplug from Electrify America yesterday. While charging, I was inside with my car running and doors locked. After opening the driver door and ending the charge session with the coupler unlock button (next to the plug), the cord remained locked to the charge port. EA was showing that I should unplug. I got on my phone with EA for 10 minutes, turning the car off/on and trying several times to remove the charging cable. I think it finally came free when I hit the door unlock button on the driver door, but I was also carrying my PAAK phone around and EA support was resetting the charging station. Rookie mistake after 3+ years of ownership?

Also in reference to earlier comments on this thread, the manual is clear that you should "Move the low voltage service disconnect to OFF" before using the manual disconnect cable under the hood. Fortunately, I didn't have to go that far, but it was painful to be involuntarily locked to the charger for 15-20 minutes.
