I only have a calling plan for my cell phone and no data. It seems that you need your phone to scan a QR to activate the charger is that right?

Use your cellphone camera or QR reader app to scan code and follow the link.
02 — Confirm Your Charge
Location and charger info will appear. Click ‘Continue.’
03 — Plug in Charger
Plug the charger handle into your car.
Our chargers support J1772 for Level 2 Charging and CCS + CHAdeMO for DC Fast Charging.
04 — Enter Payment Info
Enter your credit or debit card information on your phone and tap ‘Start Charging’.
Your screen will display the charging session status.

Without a data plan trying to travel with an EV would be very difficult. I have no answers for you.

I have an old legacy pay as you go plan with T-Mobile since 2008. Doesn't have a minimum monthly charge and any unused minutes will roll over month to month. I'm not going to lose that plan.

My cell phone can have a second SIM card so I'm thinking of getting a pay as you go plan with data. I only needed it for the times I need to charge away from home.
