Something strange happened this weekend. I was having my garage worked on so my car was unplugged for about 3 days. During the time that it was unplugged it received the 3.6.1 Power Up update for the HVAC. I plugged my car into my Juice Box and the charger kept stopping once it hit 20amps and would then restart charging. It kept repeating this cycle indefinitely and never reached 40 amps. I switched to the Ford portable charger, and similar behavior occurred. It would start charging and then make a clicking sound a quick red LED flash. It would repeat this every minute or so (probably once it hit around 20 amps). I assumed that the issue was with my 14-50 receptacle and called my contractor in. The outlet and power line was never touched during my renovation but he checked it numerous times just to be safe. We also tightened the outlet screws and performed other electrical tests. I decided to drive the car to a public Chargepoint L2 charger to see if it replicated the issue. It did. At that point I knew that it was the MME causing this issue and not my power infrastructure. As I sat in the lot, watching the public charger go up and down in KWH after about 15 minutes it just normalized and the behavior stopped. I drove it home, plugged it into my garage and there was no issue. Anyone have a similar experience or any idea what would cause this behavior? I have a 2022 Premium extended AWD. I also attached a screenshot of what my juice box was doing when this behavior occurred. You can see it spike over and over again. Very weird.

Interesting, I don't have an explanation. Was the car really low on charge when you started? Any 12V messages?

Nope. 66% remaining charge and drove it a bit each day without issue. It’s really strange and even stranger that it cleared up on its own without doing anything except leaving it spazzing out on the charger for ten minutes.

So since I originally posted this and it sorted itself out the car has charged normally on the ford charger ever since. Today, my garage renovations were finally completed and my JuiceBox was reconnected. Plugged it in, the car made a rapid clicking noise and then the behavior started all over again. Would start charging, get to around 20amps and stop. The car would restart and try again over and over. Tried the ford charger and same behavior. Went back to the juice box and lowered the max amps to 16 and it stopped. Car sustained charging on 16 no problem. Any time I tried to raise it, same behavior. I finally put it on 40 and just let it sit there doing it. After a while it sorted itself out and fixed itself again. At this point I have no idea if it’s a software issue or a hardware issue, but it seems like every time I plug in a different charger than the main one it sets the car off on a frenzy. Then it sorts itself and is fine. Any ideas? You can see the behavior in the attached.

Yeah, it's not getting past the initial current ramp for some reason. Maybe you should send me your VIN so I can take a look.

Thanks a lot! Just strange how it eventually fixes itself.

Yeah I'm not seeing a whole lot, this is a strange one. Could be a software glitch or could be hardware, I'm not sure. You might have to take it into the dealer for this. A reminder if you get a charging error, shut off the car, unplug the charger from the car, and wait 5+ minutes before trying again. I guess just try to deal with it until it resolves or a fix can be found.

thanks for checking. Never got any errors on the screen during this. I turned the car on accessory mode and also fully turned it on while it was happening to see if anything popped up for either but nothing. Just showed it charging and stopping. It’s odd that it seems to happen when I change chargers. The rapid clicking noise it made when I first plugged it in also was a bit alarming. Anyways, I really appreciate you trying to help. I’ve also never DC fast charged the car yet and have a trip coming up this weekend, so hopefully nothing wonky happens when I attempt that for the first time.

Got a charging error in the app just now after 30 min of the same behavior. Going to wait a few minutes and try again. Looks like I am going to have to make a trip to the dealer at some point.

Hi Ralph. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

I will send the DM. As an update, I was able to DC fast charge without any issue since this happened, so it is only related to AC charging. When I got home that night, it did the same thing two times - started and stopped a charge, and then it ramped up to 40amps and worked again. Not sure if it’s randomly happening or if it’s self resolved itself again at this point.
