Charging Questions and Issues

Just brought home my new Mach E. Plugged it in. (To the same charger that I use for my Chevy Bolt). The Fan comes on to such a loud degree that it sounds like the car is revving. It has been doing this now for 6 hours. Even though I know of no other car that does this, I have read here that this is normal. Still seems strange.
But what makes me more concerned is that the temperature within the garage has risen by at least 20 degrees. Maybe more. We have opened the door to hopefully keep the temperature down. This is also not something I have experience with other EVs.
Is this normal? If so why? It seems very concerning. To such a degree that my wife and I are concerned with leaving the car plugged in and charging during the night. We have never had this issue with two versions of the bolt, a cmax energy or taking care of friend’s Teslas.

Fan noise will probably disappear when you turn down the charging speed below 40A (cca. 10 kW). There is a recent TSB for loud fan noise when charging at 40 amps:

My Tesla, on a hot day at a supercharger, sounds like a jet engine on a takeoff spin up. It is the air conditioner supplying cooling fluid to the battery.

I can charge my Mach-E at max current, 48 amps I think, in my garage and it gets loud for part of the charge cycle. It's a Tesla EVSE that is capable of supplying 80 amps.

I wish the maximum charge current could be set in the car.

This is happening to expand the life of your battery and is normal. The car is making noise to circulate the coolant inside your battery while also blowing hot air out of the front of your car making the garage hotter.

First time this happened to me I was pretty alarmed as well!

It won't always do this. Only when the battery is hot while you are charging.

That said, if you've driven a good distance, the battery will be warm. If you plugged it in right after you got home, the fans will work overtime to keep the battery pack cool. Wait a couple hours before plugging in. Also, at what amp were you charging the car? The higher the amp the more heat it'll generate. If possible try charging at 32 amps or lower and see if that helps.

Okay it seems like many of us are having the same issue. Being that this is not my first EV, I have to say that this is unique to the Mach E. I have not had this heat issue with any other car I have had or have. And I have not found any other friends who have had such a heat issue. Except one and that was with his Tesla. He had to take it in and they replaced his battery. I will be contacting my sales agent today.
