Just went about an hour ago to my local EA and the charge session was complimentary. I think this is due to the maintenance taking place today on the EA app.

Was at an EA charger and it kept stopping after about 5kw (between 4 and 12 mins each time). I’d unplug, plug back in… repeat. After the 3rd time I called EA and after 18 mins on hold EA said that due to system update issues on their end this was their issue. These brief mini charges were all complimentary, so not deducted from my bank.

Even with the 2 minute pause between sessions to unplug/replug and start again it was still orders of magnitude faster than the EVgo we tried earlier - that only gave me 6% in 10 mins (for $4.54) - vs 20% in the same time during one of the EA sessions.

If the communications link for payment is down it defaults to free
I failed to charge at a station yesterday. EA app can't connect to the charger, plug and charge failed too, charger said payment failed while car said charger fault. So I think if communication is down, you won't get a charge?

Glad I charged up in another EA station before so I could continue to next station 106 miles away, not getting stranded.

Naive newb question, but how do you choose payment between: EA App (digital wallet) vs complimentary charge when using the "plug & charge"?

I was at an EA station and tried to use the digital wallet app that I setup with $30 funds pre-loaded.

Plugged in the EA DCFC in as instructed,

Opened up Apple Wallet and pulled up the EA digital $30 card, waved my phone over the NFC reader and got a blip/beep.

Thought it had read the phone's payment but instead went to Ford's complimentary charge allotment.

Got charged nothing but then nothing touched in my EA account.

How do I specify that I want it charged from the digital wallet instead of the Ford complimentary ?

To use the EA account, use the EA app. Before plugging in, select the charger in the EA app and swipe to activate the charger. Then plug in. This will route the charge to your EA account. This is counter to what it says - “plug in first.” Just ignore that and activate the charger in the app BEFORE plugging in. It will work this way and will go through your EA account. If you plug in first, it will always go through your Blue Oval account if you still have Plug and Charge active.

After you swipe to charge in EA APP, the monitor and app will show "initiate charging". That's when you plug-in.
