I was driving home last night when I heard the unmistakable "pop" of glass cracking. I was following quite a distance behind the semi in front of me, but still figured "Oh great, a rock was tossed at me." When I got home I looked all over for a spiderweb or other point of impact but came up with nothing. Eventually, I found a single hairline crack that starts near the high-mounted sensor assembly and curves down below the camera opening. No sign of impact at all, but there's definitely a crack!

Of course, the B2B warranty for glass stress fractures is 12 months or 12,000 miles, both of which are well past. I'm pretty resigned to the fact I'll likely need to pay out of pocked to replace it, but am trying a windshield repair kit for the time being because $12 is a whole lot more appealing than $1,200. With the way this appears to have no external cause, is there any hope this falls under any sort of TSB/CSP/etc?

Also, yes, there's a little gunk around where I had placed some tape to keep dust/water/etc out before I could attempt a fix.

Unfortunately, no. But your insurance should cover it. If you don't have separate glass coverage, it would fall under comprehensive (minus your deductible).

To keep rates down, my deductible is high enough it would all be out of pocket.
