Grrr! 260 miles on my MME GT and already a crack in the windshield. Oh well I guess that is what insurance is for. Should I insist the Ford dealership replace it or is Safelight a viable option?

Pardon the pic. I was at the recycling center.

You should contact your insurance company. You may have a lower or zero deductible on glass. They will likely have a recommended glass vendor, and you should insist on Ford OEM glass. It will also need to have the camera recalibrated, which the glass vendor should do.

Your ability to demand OEM glass will be a function of your insurance policy, most likely. I'm assuming by now there is aftermarket glass available, so if you have an OEM parts rider on your policy, then you absolutely need to make the company doing the job aware of it, even if it's arranged through insurance. (I had to replace the glass on my Acura RDX. I went to Safelite having arranged it through Nationwide. Nobody told them I had the OEM parts coverage, and when I went to pick it up, it had aftermarket glass. They had to re-do the job with Acura glass, and they were NOT happy about it. Just make sure everyone knows before the work gets started.)

If you don't have the OEM parts provision, you might end-up having to cut some deal with Safelite where you pay the difference.

When that happened to mine I contacted my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) and they recommended I have the dealer replace the glass, and insurance pay for it. It took a few weeks for the dealer to get the glass in stock, but that was almost a year ago now.

Yes. The plan is to go with insurance. Yes it was FOD.

I’ll have to check the policy about OEM. I have Esurance if any cares or has experience.

I would not bother with a dealer, they usually outsource glass work anyway, that is what mine did for the recall. My insurance, State Farm, almost always uses Safelight and they do good work. They come to my house and it is done within an hour.
