I wouldn't assume it will be totaled. It sounds like your insurance company should have a good case to go after the service van company/driver's insurance...

Actually NC is pretty laid back state to drive in (the Blue Ridge Parkway is a dream) unless you are on an interstate. There, all of the out of state arseholes are a menace.

Thanks! Just now, I found a '25 GT with only 1500 miles for $46k listed in another nearby town that I'm gonna try to grab for even less.

I get your point. I probably do way too many favors for my family & friends. Things do go awry once in a while (this sad tale wouldn't be the worst example), but on balance this particular character flaw has brought me much more enjoyment than pain. YMMV.

Actually, good news, the van owner was a stand up guy. Told the cops it was completely his fault. I was able to file a claim the next morning with his insurer (Auto Owners) and was in a free loaner by the end of the day!

Only if the OP owes more than they total it out for. I would be surprised if that’s the case.

The good news is he’ll probably be able to find a 2024 for about what he paid for the 23.

1) Went on vacation last month.
2) Allowed adult house sitter access to 2023 Mach E GT.
3) House sitter gets a side impact from a service van backing up in a parking lot - unavoidable and not their fault.
4) Estimate just received? ~$27k.
5) Crying in my beer, knowing I only paid $33k for it with 14k miles 6 months ago.
6) Screaming in my beer knowing that I just put 4 new tires on it the week before we left on vacation.
7) Throwing beer mug at wall while screaming knowing it will be totalled.

If anyone has a Rapid Red 2024-25 GT to sell....I'm now on the hunt.

Carvana? They actually have 2 24s out there which have less miles are cheaper, but they’re already sale in progress kind of doesn’t make sense to me the price.

Oh gosh! Thats very distressing, however accidents happen.

I once had a totaled car that had new tires and some engine work done 2 months before the jerk hit me, and they upped my totaled amount cause I had the receipts for it with dates. Just a piece of helpful info if it goes the totaled path, but maybe it wont. You never know, and it’s not like service times are as bad as Teslas!

Yes, I could do it myself for much less. But there is damage to the A and B pillars so there's structural damage beyond RRR'ing the two bumpers, front and rear quarter panels and the passenger door and window. The reinforcement behind the A pillar is normally ultra high strength steel, so RRR'ing it will require setup on a frame machine. I can't do that.

And that's before they pull it apart to see if there's unseen electronics, drivetrain and battery pan damage. I do know the center console display was doing really weird things on my drive to the repair shop.

Plus, I already have my '69 bug vert resto project sitting in the garage waiting for my time, money and attention.
