You are correct this is a great idea for new EV drivers. If you've never done a DCFC then try to do your first one close to home.
I mean I waited to test my Tesla adapter until we were at 6%, kids in car, driving home on a holiday weekend with it being 100 degrees outside. Some EV drivers live on the edge!

I did the same and went to a local supercharger and charged a while and disconnected and went to EA and charged for a while. All went ok for me but I had the car for 6 months before trying DCFC out.
Likewise ... it's a good idea to do a test charge when you're new to all this. I did so about 3 months or so ago at an EA, about two months into ownership of the car. About 15 minutes, added a bunch of miles, took the car up to about 80% and then stopped, just for the practice. Now that I've received my A2Z adapter I'll give a Supercharger a test spin but I want to burn up some electrons first. You're doing the right thing Clark learning your way around the car. Enjoy it.

I adore the Rally. I have a star white premium. I wanna grab the wheels and the spoiler off the Rally. How do you like it so far. What's the rally drive mode like .

Still getting used to the size. Previous vehicle was a Fusion sedan. I like the responsiveness. This is definitely a vehicle with enough power to get seriously in trouble if you don't respect that capability.

I have not had the chance to get it on a soft enough surface away from traffic yet. I want to approach the edges of the performance envelope in a manner similar to flying a performance aircraft. There are some nice dirt roads in northern Michigan that will be just the ticket for some spirited driving.

To date, it has done exactly what I have asked of it. Blue Cruise in traffic is great. Auto-resume from a full stop is no drama. I have gotten a bit aggressive on highway on-ramps and stability control did what it had to. Control was positive throughout the entire evolution. I could tell what it was doing, and it was just enough to maintain that positive control.

The biggest thing I am looking forward to is getting into the Colorado mountains to see how that goes. My Ford Fusion Hybrid loved the play in the mountains, though I tended to stay on the pavement with that car.

I will make another test trip as soon as I get my adapter. Current timing will likely have it arrive as I am packing to leave on a road trip, so the first test will likely be for real. (I will have alternate charges in range. That is just how I roll.)

The dc charge unlock button is on the "settings screen upper right between liftgate and frunk(?) is that the one you're talking about?
Yup. Thanks. Used it maybe once.

Take it easy, he is new here. You don't have to let him know right out of the gate that half the people on this forum are jackasses
Winter is right around the corner and when he starts asking why his range is so low, then he will find out just how many jackasses there are
Ha! Good form & nice of you to say, really.

Monday, I did a short trip to test DCFC for my new MME Rally. (I know this is old hat for most here, but it might be interesting to some.)

First test was a local Tesla Supercharger with Magic Dock. I had just seen a YT video using a Magic Dock without needing the Tesla app. This test was to see what it would take, and if this actually worked. I was able to park in the spot just right of the rightmost spot. I needed to pull closer after checking cable length. Held the button on the plug for a bit over 2 seconds, and the adapter audibly unlocked. Pulled the adapter out and plugged in. ~20 seconds later, charging started. I could see the rate in the FordPass app. The only way I found to stop the charge was the button next to the charge port.

Second stop was Electrify America. No issues. Slower to start than the Tesla, but no additional effort needed. Same ability to track in the FordPass app. I could have stopped the charge from the dispenser, but I used the charge port button again.

Each of these sessions was followed up with an email from Ford with the cost of the session.

Next, I took a longer run down to a Pilot with an EVgo charger. I used this session to complete the setup of Autocharge+. This was reported by EVgo, as one would expect.

Final test was at a ChargePoint. This was a slower charger, but I wanted to see how it would work. There was an issue with the latch on the CCS cable, but it staying plugged in, and I was able to complete a charge. I activated this with the FordPass app without issue. The broken latch was reported previously on PlugShare, and I added my own note that it was still broken.

Previously, I had installed the apps for a few CPOs I expect to encounter in my next road trip. The effort in getting them configured ranged from almost no effort, to extremely painful. I have to wonder where they found programmers for a couple of these. I have only actually tested EVgo, so, I will need to double check a couple, just in case.
what was your maximum charge rate? Any better with the 2024s?

I was high in the pack and just running a test, so I was focusing on function. I will be reporting on peak charging and time to charge during my first road trip in a couple weeks.

Based on what I have heard, I do not expect the peak to be higher, but I am hoping for a better curve.

I have now done some more DCFC sessions with my Rally.
I don't think the peak is any higher than previous editions. Best I have seen is 153 KW.
Last two sessions were on 160 KW chargers (seem to have a peak of 400A)
400A held until about 47% (~145 KW peak)
Over 100 KW until 67%

Rate is above 80 KW to 79% where it drops to 40 KW at 80%.

Did a charge high in the pack.
Rate was consistent with earlier sessions at the same SoC.
New detail is that the ~40 KW rate is held from 80% to 92% where the rate drops to ~30 KW. This rate was held until I stopped the charge at 94% SoC.

That is an improved charging from what my 2021 Premium displays.
