I am posting this as much as to clarify for myself what I am feeling and also to seek other folks' experiences and maybe feel reassured. will love it if UK folks also chime in.

I have had my 4X for about 5 months now and after 5k miles I have had zero issues with it. I hope I haven't jinxed that now!

ride comfort:

I am not happy with the ride comfort. I am a very frequent contributor to those threads :). I am disappointed that there is no proper after market solution. before anyone says Steeda, I am in touch with them and only yesterday they confirmed there is no update since they have not enough MMEs to test on. I think that's another way of saying its not a priority for them.

my family does not like the ride and that bothers me a lot since this is a family car in addition to being my daily drive. I have to admit we had a Jag before and comparing ride comforts may not be fair, but it is what it is.

OTA:

I am in UK, which basically means we are dirt for many US companies. who prioritise their domestic market. Ford is no exception. I have been stuck on 1.6 since time began and I think many other UK owners are in a similar boat. I don't think I am missing much in terms of performance improvement, but it sucks not to have regular updates.

recall:

my 4X has been at the dealer for ten days now and I finally got confirmation that all the pano roof, windshield and customer satisfaction update has been done. I will be collecting my car on Monday. the delay was because the windshield fitter didn't either have the part or couldn't commit to a date. I don't understand why the dealer booked me in without first checking on this.

I got a 4X as a loaner and my dealer has kept me informed continually so that's some consolation.

@Ford Motor Company 's customer service SUCKS.

pros for the car are still the same. one of the very few (or only one of two, other being Model Y) SUV sized vehicle with 250 miles range. great looks. rarity value on roads. good interior and storage space.

overall, I don't know if I am disillusioned or not but I am certainly disappointed and this is more with @Ford Motor Company than the car. if the company was more proactive about comms and updated us better, I would feel less so.

will I still recommend the car?

yes. but I will tell buyers caveat emptor. this is a first generation car which has just completed its first year on the road anywhere in the world. it will have issues. likewise other first generation EVs such as Ioniq 5 might have issues too.

I have had mine for less than a month but I have an identical configuration and I do agree the suspension needs work. I like it on the firm side but it does seem to bounce too much after hitting a pothole. I wouldn't want to drive after a heavy meal, that's for sure.

I haven't had it long enough to deal with recalls and OTA issues yet.

I am disappointed that they weren't clear about how much the GOM winter range would drop in the winter. I haven't ever seen it over 150 miles. I am also super disappointed with customer service and my dealer.

I still would have it over a Model 3/Y but if I was buying another EV in the next few years it probably would buy from a different brand.

Sorry about your troubles, it is certainly not an overreaction I feel to be upset when putting down that much money. While the recall issues and that I expect to a point with a new vehicle, I am in full agreement that Ford's messaging on the OTA updates has been god awful. I work at Ford, and I am an enormous Ford fan, and both of those things make me extra upset at how bad they have been about them. While our MME is still on order (no VIN still, ordered in November), we have a '21 F-150 PowerBoost and I got the BlueCruise Prep Package, and am coming up on a year with the truck and still no BC.

They missed the original deadline, which is fine it's a tough time and working there I know how hard it has been for teams during the pandemic. But for them to tell shareholders that they were pushing the update to 2022, and that is how us owners also found out, was a kick to loyal customers I don't feel gets enough noise. We shouldn't have to wait for shareholders that don't own the vehicle to be updated on the status of something for us to also find out.

Anyway, I only mention that to say, it isn't just outside the US that the OTA updates have been a second class citizen type of feeling. My truck only has 1.7.1 because I had to get my APIM replaced for an issue with Sync 4 and the dealer updated all the modules while I was there. Otherwise all I had was a failed attempt to install 1.7.1 from around November of last year.

First year runs can suck, I am seeing it with the F-150 as well, and that's to be expected. But Ford needs to start talking to customers first and shareholders second or they will have to start explaining to shareholders where all the customers went, and as a fan and employee and customer, I really don't want to see that day come.

Fair points, but we also need to compare it with what’s available. For as rough as the ride can be in the MME, it’s still the best out there of the EVs. Perhaps the weight of EVs requires a much stiffer suspension? The OTA update issues are pretty much inexcusable. It’s always frustrated me how car companies try to incorporate tech in their cars but don’t appear to give it the attention it requires to be successful. Ford has designed this car to be so reliant on technology but clearly didn’t invest in it enough for it to be reliable enough for daily use. I look at all the EVs on the market, however, and I don’t see one better than the Mach E anywhere near this price point.

I think Ford failed to understand the buyers in the EV market, especially the early adopters. Ford’s bread and butter has been trucks, big SUVs, and the mustang. The typical buyer for these vehicles appreciates good technology, but they’re buying those vehicles for the function first and cool tech features a distant second. The US EV market - at the Mach E’s price point - expects a high tech car, not just one with electric capability. The cool tech isn’t an afterthought for the US EV buyer they’re targeting with this car. For most of us, we expect the tech to reliably function. I’m so sick of hearing “just carry the key fob, it’s not a big deal.” Yes, it is. Or “you shouldn’t have expected to be able to take the car into places without cell service” because of the 12v battery dying and leaving me stranded without a tow available. And, of course being unable to actually get into my car. I can’t even trust driving my car to a trailhead to go on a hike because of the 12v battery issue and there’s no fix for it (yes, I’ve got all the updates and yes, I still get the notice inside the car regularly, not just in FP). But again, it has to be compared to the competition such as Tesla. While Tesla doesn’t have these issues, they don’t build as good of an actual vehicle as the Mach E. And it’s still super fun to drive! I hope Ford wakes up soon and realizes these issues soon.

So far, my Hyundai Ioniq 5 has no issues. It will be a lightly used car when my Ford Mach e, ordered months ago, arrives next summer/fall. I'll decide what to do with these two BEV, at that time. Thanks for your MME views.

i ordered an MME months ago and am facing more months before I get a build date, not to mention a delivery date. I will decide what to do with the MME, if and when it's ever delivered and whether they honor Ford's price protection and NO-ADM promises. I continue to utilize this forum and appreciate the views of its participants.
Meanwhile, I looked at my options for "available" BEVs that I liked, were rated well. I waitlisted at many local dealers. IMHO, they are all generally similar in function and cost and styling, while differing in many smaller details that may be significant to individual buyers. Availability and dealer markup are two major complications for now. I now have a Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ltd that suits me very well. It would seem foolish to rule out any BEV until one is at a decision point. Once committed to a make, I too hope the manufacturer's stay "on the ball" for updates and timely fixes of customer complaints.

Have you checked out Polestar as well? I strongly considered selling my current MME (it’s my second) because of my frustrations. I could have made a good chunk of money and still gotten the federal tax credit on a new car. The EV6 was my favorite option but I still think, for me, it’s just a little less desirable. Polestar actually runs a Google OS which I think is interesting - not sure whether it’ll catch on. I have a Rivian on order and definitely plan to trade it out if it ever actually comes to fruition.

Haven't had or heard any major issue with my ioniq 5. Maybe the best ride quality for an EV SUV out there. I'm a bit anxious about the ride quality of my MME when it's here
