I got a message that 2.1.0 is ready to update (I don't do an automatic update). Do I need to have the car plugged in to do the update?

Does your WiFi extend to your car and is your car automatically signing up to it when in it's parking place? I charged last night and received a FordPass notice that my car had been updated to 2.1.0 this morning. My previous updates occurred when my car was just sitting in the garage. A good connection to the internet is more important.

Does the car wake and connect for updates? It’s not connected to my WiFi while just sitting in the garage.

Each OTA can be configured (by Ford) to allow via Cellular vs. WiFi -- it depends on the specific OTA. I think they told me 2.1 is only delivered via AT&T Cellular. I gave them feedback on it because my home has terrible AT&T coverage (I tried to switch my cellphone to AT&T but had to switch back to Verizon). But the car has excellent WiFi signal in the garage.

Most updates can be done when you are driving. There is one OTA coming (a pre-requisite to receiving BlueCruise) that will require the car be parked and I think you wont be able to use it for a couple of hours. Ford says you'll get to schedule that one so it doesn't happen at an inconvenient time. I sure hope that one is configured to work over WiFi.

I don't get updates. Still don't have 1.7. They tried it once but failed. Never tried again. Tried Ford support. They said they can do nothing to shoot it to my car. I guess I will have the dealer do it when I do the glass recalls - which I am of course not interested in doing after all the horror stories I read about on these pages.

The 1.7 update failed on my car and the auto update switch won't turn on anymore.
But, my car runs fine, I don't do fast charging so I'm not in a hurry to get the update done.
I hesitate to take it to my dealer for the recalls but I will need to take it in for the axle noise while turning hard.
