Hi all,

The dealer (service department) recently reprogrammed some of the modules in the car to fix the dead 12-V battery issue, but now I'm getting a behavior that I'm not convinced was there before...

The driver door ajar alert chime is ALWAYS on unless the car is started ("Ready"). For example, let's say I get home, pull into my garage, turn the car off, and open the driver door. The door alert/ajar chime comes on. Even though the car is off. So if I want to just sit in the car for a minute to finish a conversation or look at my phone or whatever, I can't do it with the door open. I don't remember the car having this behavior before I took it to the shop for service. Can anyone else confirm that the driver door ajar alert chime is basically ALWAYS on, regardless of whether the car is on or not?

Thank you!

Are you sure it's alerting you about the door? Other items will cause the same alert.

Check your headlights switch. The service tech may have set it to On instead of Automatic.

DUDE!!! You're a genius! OMG. Well, now I feel like an idiot. It was the headlights. Which makes a lot of sense now that I think about it because I was also wondering why it suddenly seemed like it was taking an awfully long time for the headlights to turn themselves off.? I had literally never even looked at the headlight switch before today. Oh man. Welp, mystery solved! Thank you very much!

I think technicians are trained to turn on headlights before entering the service bay, for safety and to verify they work (your "complimentary multipoint inspection"). They often forget to switch them back. Same with leaving ACs on MAX (at least out here anyway).

Just found this thread because my Mach E was doing the same thing and I was convinced it was the door and nope! Turns out it was the headlights! Thank you from a very grateful Pony Owner!!

We had the same thing happen to us. We don't remember changing the headlights but the the switch must have been bumped somehow.

+1 Here.
Even though the lights (when on) turn off still, I didn't think to check. Read this, set the lights to auto, alas - no more chime.

Honestly, I assumed the lights were already set to auto because they turn off anyways...

You might not have bumped the switch. There is a bug in the switch where an overflow error will cause it to switch from “Auto” to “On” without intervention. The only workaround is to turn it off then back on (although some have reported that just turning back to “Auto” will switch it back). ??

This happens to me every month or two unless I remember to spin the light selector knob once and a while. Spinning it resets the error condition Steve mentioned in the previous post.

I'm glad to hear this is a bug. It happens in my car every couple months, and it seemed so unlikely that someone was bumping the knob every time. When it happens, I just rotate the knob a couple clicks until it indicates "Auto" again and it goes away for a while. It fixes it even if the car is already off.

The frequency of this error has really increased for me recently. It used to be once or twice a month, now I am getting it several times a week. Very strange.
