From EA, now trialing limiting SoC to reduce congestion ???

Congestion Reduction Pilot
At Electrify America, we’re committed to delivering a positive charging experience for every driver. As we explore strategies to reduce wait times and increase throughput across our network, we’ve launched a pilot that enforces a State of Charge (SOC) limit at select locations. Once a vehicle reaches 85% State of Charge, the charging session will automatically end, and drivers will have 10 minutes to move their vehicle before idle fees are incurred.

Inspired by our customers’ feedback, this pilot will be conducted across the stations listed below. Our team will continuously monitor station performance and customer sentiment during this pilot program and adjust as needed.
Congestion Reduction Pilot Stations
  • Plaza Del Sol (Station 200068) at 10982 Sherman Way, Burbank, California 91505
  • Target T2328 (Station 200041) at 651 W Sepulveda Blvd, Carson, California 90745
  • Ralphs 060 (Station 200046) at 1416 East Colorado St, Glendale, California 91205

I need EvGo to implement this pilot as well. This would free up a lot of chargers.

Soooooo much of the EV experience can be improved through small software changes like this.

This space is ripe for innovation, and I'm glad to see EA taking these steps.

I love this! This small change could make a HUGE difference in wait times.

This needs to be implemented nationwide immediately when the stations are full.

while i like the idea, i do not know how i feel about...
for the time when people are on road trips, it would be nice to be able to override the charger to go to 100%. For local driving, I am 100% on board with this.

I also love the "waitlist" suggestion that @generaltso has suggested. Chargepoint has it and it's absolutely amazing (especially at place of work, where you have a lot of people trying to charge)

Yeah, I've been using the ChargePoint waitlist feature for years. It amazes me that EA doesn't have this functionality. Instead, they leave it up the drivers to keep track of who got there first and duke it out if there's a disagreement. A waitlist would also allow them to dynamically control the max SOC allowed based on whether or not people are waiting.

It is only the congested locations that get this, seems like they will take in account distance to other nearby locations so hopefully you can visit a less convenient site for a higher SoC.

For example, EA lists 13 locations in San Diego, only one is in the congestion pilot so you have 12 others, or some other network, to choose from. And the location only has three 350kW so seems like a good location for congestion management.

Oh, I guess I have completely mis-understood the point of it.
Thanks for clarifying!
