That’s not an electric motor problem. That’s a how we supply the electricity problem.
True - but you can’t go anywhere with an electric or gas engine unless it is tied to a vehicle and all that goes along with it - or at least the last time I checked!

I can drive non-stop from Fairbanks to Anchorage with my Expedition during the winter except for a quick rest stop. I can do the 350 miles in about 6 hours. Doubt that can be done in my Mach.
You could do that easily in a Silverado EV, which is more equivalent to an Expedition.

People talk about their 800+ mile ICE vehicle as if that's common in the Mache class of vehicles without it being a hybrid or something that is still an electric augmented vehicle or has a massive fuel tank that requires an Amex Platinum to refill from empty. With enough batteries you could go 1000 miles.

My F-150 Hybrid can do over 700 miles on the highway, but that's with a massive 30 gallon tank, and they get larger than that.

But we had an ICE only Escape 2.0L in 2018 and that thing had a 15 gallon fuel tank and got pretty poor mileage. It would only get 350 to 400 miles on a tank. Still beating a Mache at highway I know, but it isn't as grand a difference as it is sometimes made out to be.

But yeah, the comic is about the power provider, the motor or engine, not the portable power supply, like gas or battery.

But my horse can fill up anywhere!

People hated on the "horseless carriage" too when it came out. Cars were pretty crappy for a long time. Most cars in the 60's and 70's were lucky to last 50,000 miles before rusting out. There used to be lead in gas for @#& sake!

Electric is the future. How the electric motor gets that power is still in its infancy. Diesel electric trains use electric motors to propulsion with a diesel generator. Some automobiles could do the same. Unlike gasoline, or other liquid fuels, there is existing infrastructure for electricity. They just need to figure out how to get it into the car and store it there better. I keep seeing articles about new battery technology every day. Eventually they will come to market.

I like to think we are all here because we want to see that future. I know my MME isn't perfect, but I'm hoping my "investment" will help electric cars get better. It works for me right now, but I know it isn't for everyone... yet... hopefully!

I guess that's supposed to be funny. I just found it stupid. Saw it floating around on X this morning.

I supposed it's not a horrible depiction of the MOTOR. The problem, of course, is powering it. They could make a similar meme about 1000 pound battery pack only taking you half as far as a 100 pound gas tank. And costing 100x as much.
It’s a joke. Don’t over analyze it. And there are such memes about batteries vs gas tanks.

I realize that but it is my point is just people continue to compare electric and ICE. I drive my EV as much as possible but it is not the end all beat all. We have a large gold mine near town and the ore haulers have been elective drive for years. And diesel locomotives have been electric drive for many years likewise so nothing new about the benefit of an electric drive over a combustion engine.

You must be so proud to be able to drive that polluting gas hog non stop to your destinations.

Taking a trip in the Mach-E is more enjoyable for me than the other option that I have, CR-V. But still more stressful - need to plan the stops, look for places to park at the destination, and make sure the speed doesn't affect the travel plan.

I prefer not to be stressed. I picked CR-V for the last trip (Detroit to Mackinaw) and will do it again.

Still, I missed my Mach-E :)
Yeah I bought a Lincoln Corsair for my road trips. Charger availability isn't really that big of a deal these days, but time still is, once we get to 10 minute charges it might be more manageable.

I was going to point out the same thing. Sadly, right now, the energy density in a unit volume of petroleum is still significantly greater than the unit density of a comparable EV battery. Another one is that the energy transfer rate for petroleum is far greater than the energy transfer rate for EVs (consider how long it takes you to charge an EV to travel a certain distance, versus putting gas in the tank of an ICE car to go the same distance). All that said, I’ll take my Mustang Mach E any day of the week!

Hopefully the supercharger access help out with this. They tend to be quite plentiful and reliable. Hopefully it stays that way and the others catch up.

I mean, what’s the chances of coming to a gas station where 2 of 4 stalls are dead, and the other two are occupied, with a line waiting behind them? Ever had someone yell or rap your glass at a gas station to helpfully tell you “yer at aiytee naw”, with a look that says “better get going cuz I’m gettin impatient”?

The hover-over text for this one is:
An idling gas engine may be annoyingly loud, but that's the price you pay for having WAY less torque available at a standstill.
Eh, with the T/A it’s not a lot less torque off-idle and by the time I’m to about 2400 it makes more torque than my MME. Of course the issue is that it’s all going through 2 tires vs. 4 on the MME. ??

Not if it’s an Ioniq 5 N. Those bad boys are dying to preserve the noise, vibrations and even gear shift changes of yesteryears tech.

who knows, these guys might even put in a liquid nitrogen tank in there just to give these cars something to emit, and the driver something to fill. You know, to make it look and feel more performance-y when you smash that pedal.

Same here. My issue, and I will get off my high-horse now, is I get tired of the “I am saving the world or I am better than you or EV is better than ICE” statements.

No I am not “proud” to drive it and it is not a gas hog. It is a functional vehicle and can haul 8 passengers when needed and it gets 23 MPG which is good for a large vehicle. I also drive my EV as much as possible. But if you do not have solar, and I applaud you if you do, your EV is burning fossil fuel too. And yes I would rather drive 6 hours to go 360 miles than take up to 12 hours to get there when I am visiting for a weekend. If it makes you proud to drive an EV then good for you. I drive the vehicle that is right for the situation I find myself in.
